Art Student Spotlight - Cruz Segura
In celebration of Black History Month, TCHS hosted “Behold the Dream: Brother to the Dreamer” with guest speaker Mrs. Naomi King (widow of Rev. Dr. A. D. King). At the end of the presentation, Mrs. King was presented with this beautifully executed portrait by Art Magnet Senior, Cruz Segura. Mrs. King is known to be incredibly fond of butterflies. The A.D. King foundation describes her as a woman of quiet dignity and strength who walks with the grace and distinction of her beloved butterflies. Cruz did an excellent job capturing this likeness.
You will be able to see more of Cruz's artwork at the upcoming show, 'Let It Go' this Thursday in the TCHS Atrium Gallery as well as at the TCHS Senior Art Exhibition, 'As the Story Begins', on May 8th, 6-8pm at the ArtsXchange's Jack Sinclair Gallery in East Point.
'Let It Go' is based on a series of stream of consciousness writing prompts & artworks Ms. Knippenberg's Drawing & Painting Magnet students have been working on throughout the school year. Students were presented with the challenging task of identifying and acknowledging aspects of themselves or their lives that trouble them, confronting them head on, and then working towards letting go/overcoming them. This art show is packed full of amazing, emotionally driven work and you will not want to miss it!
