Nurse Scholarship

Since I was a little girl, nursing has always been an aspiration of mine.

The dream sprouted, watching my mom become a spontaneous caretaker for my grandpa when he was diagnosed with kidney failure. Seeing my mom give my grandpa those six extra years of life, solidified my determination to become a nurse.

I want to go into the field of psychiatric nursing because the topic and concern for mental health in this country is often understated in today’s society. Substance abuse, specifically, is a constant threat we face within our communities that too often goes untreated. People who are suffering emotionally, mentally, and physically turn to alcohol and drugs to self medicate their feelings. My desire would be to help those who deserve and need to be treated with empathy, reliability, and reassurance. My ambition to become a nurse is not only about fulfilling my internal happiness but also being able to be financially independent.

After my grandparents passed away, it was very difficult for my mom to find a job without a degree or college education. Seeing and realizing this, made my inclination for attending a university and obtaining my occupational goals steepen. I am excited to finally venture into that aspect of life and begin to build my dream career.
