(WRIC) — The swimmer who went missing in the Appomattox River has been identified as Michael Treyvon Pushia, 27, of Nesmith, South Carolina.

Chesterfield Fire and EMS scuba rescue team discovered the body just north of Campbell’s Bridge at 11:25 a.m. Saturday.

The body has been transported to the to the medical examiners office for a cause of death.

Chesterfield Police say that Pushia was in Virginia for work, and was at the river with a group of coworkers who were hanging out. Authorities said they did not believe there was foul play involved.

First responders were called to 21600 block of Chesterfield Avenue for a “potential person in the water,” at 7:16 p.m. Friday, May 15, according to Chesterfield Fire and EMS spokesperson Jason Elmore. A witness at the scene reported that a male appeared to be treading water and in distress.
