PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Police are searching for the suspect as they investigate a deadly stabbing inside a Federal Hill lounge.
Maj. David Lapatin confirmed the stabbing happened before midnight Wednesday inside Nara Hookah Lounge during a confrontation between two men. He said one of the people involved – now identified as Troy Pine, 46, of Providence – died from his injuries. Police expect to release his identity sometime Thursday.
Officers closed off Atwells Avenue between Dean Street and DePasquale Avenue in the heart of the city’s Federal Hill neighborhood for several hours as they investigated.
During a Thursday morning news conference, Lapatin said investigators are reviewing surveillance video from the incident.
While the lounge owners are cooperating – Lapatin said police will request an emergency closure at the Providence Board of Licenses Thursday afternoon.
The stabbing marks the 12th homicide in Providence in 2019 and the second one during the past week. A 19-year-old Revere, Mass. woman was shot and killed in a double shooting in the Elmwood neighborhood Sunday.
Back in June, Club Seven in Federal Hill was ordered temporarily shut down by the Providence Board of Licenses after Stephen Cabral, 28, of North Providence, was beaten and stabbed outside a nearby parking lot.
