Professor Fatemeh Emdad completed her Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics with a concentration in Applied Mathematics at Colorado State University. She is the recipient of the top-ranked student academic award from the President of Shiraz University. She is the author of the book High Dimensional Data Analysis and more than 20 journal and conference articles. She completed her postdoctoral degree with the University of Texas Medical Branch and Shriners Hospital for Children Burn Unit when she was the NIH postdoctoral scientist fellow (under Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award from National Institute of Health).

Professor Emdad taught at the University of Connecticut, as Assistant Professor in Residence. She represented the University of Connecticut Mathematics Department at Northeast Academy Elementary School Math and Science Day, presenting about the applications of mathematics in the real world and in medicine, as well as some fun and intriguing mathematics tricks. Prof. Emdad presented at the Better Citizen’s Series (at UConn), a nationally recognized program that seeks to increase intercultural communication and sensitivity of traditionally underrepresented minority students in the STEM fields. The presentation was on the role of women in academic progression and gave students a sense of urgency and persistence in achieving their academic dreams through motivational life stories. International graduate participants in the program gave the presentation one of the highest scores on the program evaluation because of the “interactive” and “thought-provoking” presentation. While at UCONN, she coordinated a financial mathematics course for about 800 students and she had about 10 TAs working under her supervision holding discussion sessions. She was also teaching big classes of about 200 students per section.

Prof. Fatemeh Emdad joined WPI in July 2015 as Associate Teaching Professor of Data Sciences from Babson College. Involving undergraduate students in a successful research project is a difficult and time-consuming task at Babson College. While at Babson College, she also maintained successful research collaboration with undergraduate students, mentored undergraduate research projects and led to regional poster presentation in undergraduate conference as well as peer-reviewed publications in international conference. She has been engaged in many of the initiatives, especially curriculum development in quantitative business modeling. Prof. Emdad’s research interests are in mathematical modeling, bio-statistics, healthcare, Data mining, Business Analytics and applications.
