Thank you for considering transferring to WPI! We value WPI transfer students like you because of your varied experiences, academic and personal achievements, and maturity, and we know you will thrive here while pursuing the prestige of a world-class education.

WPI’s project-based learning is a unique and creative way to obtain your bachelor’s degree, with a very different approach than many universities. From our focused seven-week term calendar system and non-competitive grading in a collaborative environment to a proven return on investment thanks in part to myriad campus resources that assist in strong career placement, WPI does things a bit differently from other colleges and universities. Transfer students are welcome to schedule a campus visit and tour, and we encourage all students to learn more about the WPI Plan, and find out if WPI is the right fit.

WPI offers a free transfer application as well as merit scholarships and need-based aid for all transfer students (including international transfer students matriculating in Fall of 2024 and beyond). Accepted transfer students also receive a Global Scholarship worth up to $5,000 to complete a project at one of WPI's 50+ project centers domestically and abroad.

Transfer candidates will have completed at least one full semester of college (post-high school) by the time of intended enrollment, must be enrolled in, or have recently completed, upper-level coursework in math and science, and be in good academic and disciplinary standing at your current institution. Scroll down to learn more about our entrance requirements.

We know that transferring colleges is an important decision to make, and can be a difficult one. The Office of Admissions is here to help you through the transfer application process— please contact us if you have any questions or need assistance.

Important Information

Transfer admission to WPI is highly competitive, as shown by the WPI transfer acceptance rate. Successful full- and part-time transfer candidates:

  • Have been enrolled as a degree-seeking student from accredited two- and four-year institutions.
  • Have demonstrated strength in math, science, and computer or engineering coursework.
  • Must meet a residency requirement of 72 WPI credits (8 units, two full academic years).

We strongly recommend learning more about The WPI Plan to see determine if WPI’s educational approach is the right match for you. Important considerations of WPI include:

  • WPI has an accelerated calendar with four seven-week terms instead of two semesters.
  • A full-time course load is three courses per term, with classes meeting four or five days per week.
  • WPI’s undergraduate degree requirements includes two large team-based projects: The IQP and the MQP.
Entrance Requirements

Applicants should:

  • Be enrolled as a degree-seeking student in a college or university after graduating from high school.
  • Have completed or be enrolled in college-level precalculus (with a preference for college-level calculus) and laboratory science course work.
  • Be in good academic and disciplinary standing at your current college.

Successful transfer applicants have typically completed at least one full semester of college (post high school) by the time they enroll at WPI.

Transfer Credit & Articulation Agreements

After a transfer student has been accepted and has sent in their required transfer credit review request form, WPI will begin formally evaluating transfer credit. The WPI Transfer Team coordinates the review with faculty evaluators. In some cases, syllabi may be required in order to complete the course review. We do our best to provide updates as soon as possible.

Courses taken at regionally accredited post-secondary institutions that are worth 3 credits or more and typically have a grade of B- or better are considered eligible for an evaluation. Coursework that does not have a direct match may be eligible for general or "free" elective credit. Please be reminded that WPI requires final official college transcripts to post approved credit to a student's account; be sure to plan accordingly. Learn more.

For students attending a college outside of the U.S., WPI requires English translations and course-by-course credit evaluations (from a current NACES member) for all non-US transcripts. WPI will also need English translated course descriptions and possibly syllabi for each course you would like reviewed by WPI faculty evaluators for credit.

WPI has articulation agreements with specified programs at Quinsigamond Community College (QCC). Learn more about WPI's articulation agreements and partnerships.
