ROCKFORD, Mich. (WOOD) — Rockford and Wyoming high schools have canceled football games due to COVID-19 cases.

Monday, Rockford canceled its varsity football game this week after a player tested positive for COVID-19.

The game was scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. The team was set to play at its home stadium against Grand Haven High School.

It’s unknown at this time if any other students or coaches were in close contact with the player who contracted the virus.

If the team is cleared to play next week, they will play East Kentwood High School at their stadium.

Tuesday, Wyoming canceled its football program until Oct. 18 due to positive COVID-19 test results.

“Making a decision in the best interest of our students and staff was our primary focus. Given the number of individuals impacted it became necessary for us to suspend both Varsity and Junior Varsity football, practices and games, for the next two weeks. In making this decision, which is based on multiple factors, we relied on our partnership with the Kent County Health Department” said Superintendent Craig Hoekstra in a statement.

The following games will be canceled:

• The Thursday JV game against Mona Shores.
• The Friday varsity game against Mona Shores.
• The Oct. 15 JV game against Reeths-Puffer.
• The Oct. 16 varsity game against Reeths-Puffer.
