GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A second person has been formally charged in connection to the rioting in downtown Grand Rapids Saturday night into Sunday morning.

Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker told News 8 that Alexandria Lyons, 22, of Grandville, was charged with one count of inciting a riot and one count of malicious destruction of property. If convicted, she faces a decade in prison.

She’s accused of encouraging the destruction of windows at 82 Ionia Avenue, which houses the Kent County Prosecutor’s Office.

Social media video, including some from an account bearing Lyons’ name and face, shows the rioting, smashing glass and rioting downtown Saturday night.

When she was a 16-year-old Grandville High School student, Lyons pleaded guilty to an indecent exposure charge stemming from a 2014 act with another teen that she posted evidence of online, which was then shared worldwide. In 2018, she spent 147 days in jail after getting caught with less than half a gram of heroin, court records show.

Lyons was arraigned on the riot charges on Tuesday and ordered held at the Kent County jail on a $25,000 bond, with 61st District Court Judge David Buter calling her “a threat to the security and safety of the community.”

That’s five times the $5,000 bond issued for 18-year-old Adrian Baker, who was arraigned Monday on riot and larceny charges linked to the Saturday destruction.

Authorities say Baker broke into the Biggby Coffee shop on Monroe Center across from Rosa Parks Circle and stole the “We’re Open” sign.

The prosecutor said video evidence will be used to charge several more people in connection to the riot.

GRPD had set up an online portal for people to submit photos and video of the riot to help police find the people who damaged property. It said Tuesday that it had gotten more than 20,000 submissions and was closing the portal while investigators pored through them. If you have information you want to share with investigators, you can still call GRPD’s Detective Unit at 616.456.3380 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The FBI is still taking tips and images online about riots around the country.
