GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL)- The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has identified the victim in an ongoing homicide investigation in Greeneville.
According to TBI, the victim has been identified as Christopher Short, 33.
TBI officials said the case is being investigated as a homicide and that Short’s body has been sent for an autopsy.
They added his body was discovered Wednesday morning next to a business at 2055 East Andrew Johnson Highway in Greeneville.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the TBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND.
No further details were immediately available as authorities said this is still an active and ongoing investigation.
When Crytal Landeck, who works at Q Care Medical, arrived for work, she was told by police not to go out her businesses’ back door.
“We have noticed a lot of sketchy stuff going on down at the laundromat,” she said. “Sometimes at night, it’s even worse.”
Those living nearby say they are worried about their safety.
“Shocked really because right here next to where my mom lives,” said Mike Saunders. “I think that’s about the closest we’ve come to having something like this happen to her.”
Wednesday afternoon Greeneville City Schools released the following statement as Tusculum View Elementary School sits less than a mile from where Greeneville Police responded to the scene.
“This morning at approximately 9 am, Greeneville City School administrators were made aware of an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Greeneville Police Department in the vicinity of Tusculum View Elementary School. Dr. Lana Luttrell, Tusculum View Principal, immediately placed the school on modified lockdown in accordance with district safety protocol. Upon receiving assurance from members of the Greeneville Police Department that there was no threat to Tusculum View Elementary School students or employees, the modified lockdown was lifted.

District administrators were advised by GPD to conduct school normally with assurance that they would advise if anything changed. Dr Luttrell has done an excellent job this morning and continues to communicate with Tusculum View employees and families as new information becomes available. According to a release from officials that investigation was underway at 2055 East Andrew Johnson Highway.
All police would say as of Wednesday morning is that the were investigating the death of a male and that it was being investigated as a homicide.
Hours later Greeneville Police also confirmed Tennessee Bureau of Investigation officials were assisting with the investigation.
