A Tri-Cities woman accused of dressing up as a clown and killing a woman nearly 30 years ago in Wellington, FL appeared in court.

Prosecutors expected that Sheila Keen-Warren go to trial in November, but a judge set a hearing for April.

According to CBS affiliate WPEC, defense attorneys say old evidence is slowing the process.

Prosecutors say Keen-Warren dressed as a clown, in the spring of 1990, and drove to the Wellington home. The victim, Marlene Warren, answers the door to a person dressed as a clown. The clown hands her a bouquet of flowers and shots and kills her at the front door.

Authorities suspected Keen-Warren was having an affair with Marlene Warren’s husband. She later married the man in 2002 – 12 years after the murder.

The case remained unsolved until the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office reopened the case in 2014. DNA evidence and new information led investigators to Keen-Warren. She was arrested by authorities in Abingdon, VA in 2017.
