Adoption Process

STEP ONE: FIND YOUR MATCH

Profiles and photos of our adoptable animals are available online and update in real time at www.sthuberts.org/animal-search

Some of our animals are being cared for at our Madison shelter. Others are in foster homes, so their names will appear on our website with the status “in foster.”

STEP TWO: MAKE A DATE

FOR an animal in our adoption center:

Our adoption center is located at 575 Woodland Avenue in Madison, New Jersey. We are open for adoptions daily from 1:30 - 6 pm (Thursdays 3 - 6 pm). If you arrive after 5:30, there is a possibility we may not be able to complete an adoption that day.

Please note that we cannot put animals on hold, and we cannot guarantee that an animal you have seen on our website will be available the day of your appointment. If this happens, our adoption counselors will work with you to find another good match.

FOR ANIMALs IN FOSTER HOMEs:

If an animal is being cared for by a foster parent, please email the foster directly for more information about the animal and to set up an opportunity to meet the animal virtually. The two of you will set up a mutually convenient meeting using Zoom, FaceTime or whatever video conferencing platform works for you.

STEP THREE: MEET IN PERSON OR ONLINE

FOR an ANIMAL in our adoption center:

When you arrive at our Madison center, go to the main entrance, then turn right into the reception area. Our front desk will set you up with an adoption counselor. The adoption counselor will introduce you to the animal and answer any questions you have.

FOR ANIMALs IN FOSTER HOMEs:

On your video call, you’ll be able to meet the animal virtually and ask the foster any questions you may have. If you would like to adopt the animal, the foster will send you a link to an adoption questionnaire. Once you submit the questionnaire, our staff will contact you within 48 hours. If it’s a good match, the adoption can be finalized.

STEP FOUR: TAKE YOUR ANIMAL HOME!

FOR ANIMALs at St. Hubert’s Madison Campus:

Once a match is made, adoptions are finalized the same day.

FOR ANIMALs IN FOSTER HOMEs:

Adoptions are completed at our Madison shelter unless another arrangement is made with the foster.
