The Department of State advises U.S. citizens to avoid all international travel due to the global impact of COVID-19.
Siena is taking significant steps to safeguard our community in preparation for the start of the fall 2020 semester on Monday, August 24. The latest updates can be found below and our FAQ page will be updated regularly as the situation evolves.
QUICK FACTS
Summer 2020: All summer courses will be offered remotely or online.
Commencement: We are tentatively targeting Saturday, August 15 as the new date for an in-person Commencement, with corresponding social gatherings and festivities taking place on days before or after. Please visit Siena’s Facebook page to see the virtual ceremony held on May 17 to honor the Class of 2020.
College Events: Any public events on campus have been postponed to a later date or canceled outright until further notice.
Fall 2020: We are all looking forward to welcoming students back to campus and resuming our diverse and robust activities in their fullest possible form, having taken the difficult but necessary steps this spring to curtail the proliferation of COVID-19. We are, of course, encouraged and hopeful that the current trendline continues, including the decrease in hospitalizations and new cases in New York. We fully expect New York State will continue to honor its public mission with empathy and acumen as we all make the careful transition from crisis intervention to sustained crisis management and to the safe resumption of economic and personal activities.
Our contingency plans for the fall preserve as a top priority the in-person dimension of a Siena education, without compromising the safety of our community and the health of the broader public. We intend to enthusiastically and safely welcome students back to campus in August for the fall 2020 term and will make every effort to complete two semesters of on-campus instruction for the academic year. Our Fall Planning Teams are analyzing, identifying and implementing the actions necessary to provide the safe and effective delivery of the Education for a Lifetime in compliance with federal and state guidelines.
