Health and Safety Protocols

Updated March 3, 2022

In accordance with Governor Brown’s announcement on Monday, February 28, 2022, the Oregon Historical Society will no longer require staff or visitors to wear a mask when visiting its museum or research library effective March 12, 2022. With that, OHS encourages and supports those who do choose to wear a mask within its facilities, understanding that many individuals will continue to do so out of consideration for young children who are not yet eligible to be vaccinated or due to underlying health conditions that make them more vulnerable to COVID-19.

While OHS no longer requires masks after March 12, certain health and safety enhancements, like plexi barriers at point-of-sale stations, sanitized reusable styluses for exhibit interactives, and abundant hand sanitizer stations throughout the museum remain. OHS is committed to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all staff, volunteers, and visitors, and are grateful for the precautions our community continues to take to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Tips for Visiting the Oregon Historical Society

Thank you for adhering to our policies to create a welcoming space for our visitors, researchers, volunteers, and staff. Your safety, and the safety of our collections, is our highest priority.

  1. Food and beverages, including water bottles, are not permitted in the museum and research library. A drinking fountain is located in Level 1 of the museum. OHS does not have accommodations available for eating or storing bag lunches.
  2. Photography is permitted in select museum exhibitions; please defer to posted signs or ask a Visitor Experience Associate if you have questions.
  3. Please check large items and oversized bags with a Visitor Experience Associate. Lockers are available to store small items. If possible, please leave large items like backpacks or luggage at your home or hotel to speed entry.
  4. Please silence your cell phone during your visit as a courtesy to your fellow visitors and researchers.
  5. If you wish to take notes, use a pencil (no pens, please)  and clipboard or other portable writing device.
  6. Weapons, including firearms, knives (including pocket or Swiss Army style), pepper spray, mace, etc. are strictly prohibited in OHS buildings and on the grounds.
