Summit Hill Elementary School hosts community leaders
MILTON, Ga. -- Summit Hill Elementary School held an open house for community and business leaders as part of their first annual "SHE Shines" event. City of Milton Mayor Joe Lockwood and Milton City Council members Peyton Jamison and Laura Bentley joined local realtors and business members to learn about the school. Attendees were treated to special tours by the school’s student council members which focused on initiatives that make the school unique to the community. One of the stops included a lesson on the school's Table to Farm program. Food bins are placed in the cafeteria where students can dispose of leftover fruit and vegetables. The leftover food is given to local farmers for their animals. Summit Hill also takes pride in being a “Leader In Me" school which promotes the principles of the Stephen Covey book "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People."
The purpose of the event was to encourage community outreach. Principal Dr. Lorrie Bearden hopes the effort will build on current and new relationships in the community. “We are so proud of what we are doing here on the Hill and we want to show everyone what makes our school shine.”
