Austin Public Health reported Tuesday that the spike in new COVID-19 cases was due to backlogged lab data from the Texas Department of State Health Services.

APH says it has been processing around 2,200 lab reports from the state since Aug. 13. Some are duplicate cases already recorded by APH, but others are results from a month ago, with some dating as far back as April, APH says.

Four more people died due to COVID-19 on Wednesday, Travis County reports. This brings the county’s death toll up to 222. There are 3,016 active COVID-19 cases, bringing the county’s total number of confirmed cases up to 18,696.

July 21 Update

Nine more people died with a confirmed case of COVID-19, according to Travis County on Tuesday, bringing the county’s number of deaths up to 218. There are 3,171 active COVID-19 cases in the county right now, bringing its total number of confirmed cases up to 18,394.

July 20 Update

Six more people died with a confirmed case of COVID-19, Travis County health officials announced on Monday. The COVID-19 death toll is now at 209 people.

Travis County reported there are 3,056 active cases in the area which down from Sunday’s report by over 300 people. 14,526 people have reportedly recovered from the novel coronavirus.

July 19 Update

Travis County is reporting 3,384 active cases of COVID-19, five less than the previous day. That brings the total amount of cases the county has seen to 17,646.

The death toll remains at 203 on Sunday. The number of reported recoveries soared to 14,059, an increase of 197 from the previous day.

The new numbers come days before the possibility of a field hospital opening up at the Austin Convention Center, which Austin Public Health officials at last check said would be as early as Tuesday, July 21.

Travis County added 129 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday for a total of 6,339 cases, according to local health officials. Two more people died due to the novel coronavirus, bringing the area’s death toll to 112 people.

There are 1,910 active cases in Travis County with 181 people hospitalized due to the virus.

June 21 Update

Travis County reported a new daily high for coronavirus cases with 506 additional cases on Sunday. There are 6,210 total COVID-19 cases in Travis County with 2,070 cases considered active.

Over the weekend, Travis County has announced 924 new cases.

Travis County reported 84 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, bringing the total to 4,545.

The number of recoveries jumped to 3,456 for the county.

Current hospital admissions related to coronavirus hit 129 for Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bastrop and Caldwell Counties. The seven-day average for Austin hospitalizations is currently over 20, hitting Stage 4 on Austin Public Health’s risk-based guidelines.

At Stage 4, Austin-Travis County recommends lower risk individuals should avoid social gatherings with more than 10 people, non-essential travel and shopping and dining for non-essential purposes.

High-risk individuals should follow those same guidelines, but limit social gatherings to no more than two people.

Travis County reported 56 new cases of COVID-19, resulting in 2,002 total cases in-county. 659 cases are considered recovered and 1,284 are considered active. There were two new COVID-19-related deaths, bringing the county total to 59.

May 6 Update

Travis County incorrectly reported a total of 58 coronavirus-related deaths on Tuesday. The County says the actual death toll is 57 people. The new number was reflected in its latest update on Wednesday.

The total case count for the area increased by 70 for 1,946 total cases. With 617 people considered recovered, there are 1,272 reportedly active cases in Travis County.

May 5 Update

Travis County reported its largest daily death count due to COVID-19 on Tuesday. Five people died from coronavirus-related symptoms for a total of 58 deaths, according to health officials.

Sixty new cases were confirmed by Travis County for a new total of 1,876 cases. The active case count is currently at 1,239 with 579 considered recovered.

Travis County reported three new deaths from COVID-19 on Sunday, bringing the number to 39.

The total number of cases rose to 1,412, however, 398 people have recovered.

Travis County is now at 1,396 cases of COVID-19, up by 17 cases from Friday. Deaths are now at 36, an increase of four, from the previous day as well.

April 24 Update

There are now 1,379 cases of COVID-19 in Travis County. This is an increase of 67 from the previous day, the highest daily increase since April 15. There has been one additional death, bringing the fatality total to 32. Cases considered recovered are 378.

April 22 Update

There are now 1,263 cases of COVID-19 in Travis County. There are currently 344 patients who are considered recovered and there have been 28 COVID-19-related deaths in the county.

April 19 Update

Two more people have reportedly died from COVID-19 complications in Travis County, according to local health officials. There are 1108 total cases of coronavirus and 25 local deaths as of Sunday afternoon — an increase of 16 cases from Saturday.

Travis County has reported 24 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, bringing the total amount of cases to 484. The death count remains at 6 people.

April 4 Update

The death count from coronavirus complications rose from 4 to 6 people in Travis County Saturday, according to the county’s case count dashboard. A man in his 30s and a woman in her 50s were the two new deaths in Travis County, according to health officials.

March 27 Update

Travis County announced its first death from COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus, March 27. It was a woman in her 70s with significant underlying health conditions.

The county also confirmed there are now 160 cases.

March 26 Update

Travis County reported it had 137 cases as of March 26.

March 25 Update

Travis County has a total of 98 cases of COVID-19 as of March 25.

The Chief of Emergency Medical Services also confirmed Wednesday the first Austin-Travis County EMS employee had tested positive.

Alternate Health Authority Dr. Jason Pickett said of all the cases in Travis County, only three people are in the hospital and the rest are recovering at home.
