KEEP A BREAST GIVE BACK GRANT

THE KEEP A BREAST GIVE BACK GRANT (GBG) DIRECTLY SUPPORTS WOMEN OF COLOR BREAST CANCER PATIENTS AND SURVIVORS BASED IN THE U.S

Women of color face many specific, long-standing challenges in their pursuit of appropriate, proactive and equal healthcare treatment for breast cancer.

What This Looks Like:

  • Healthcare Coverage Limitations: Racial and ethnic disparities rooted in injustice and inequality continue to be a major factor when it comes to healthcare coverage. The cost of coverage is too high. This ultimately means less access to care.

  • Higher Death Rates: Although Black women have lower rates of breast cancer diagnosis than White women, they’re more likely to die and/or receive diagnoses of highly aggressive forms of breast cancer compared to White women.

  • Inadequate Care: Women of color report their concerns and/or inquiries are less likely to receive the appropriate level of concern, guidance, or recommendation of care escalation by healthcare professionals. This is injustice in the healthcare system.

  • Education and Nutrition Disparities: Lack of availability of healthy food and health education put people of color at higher risk of diabetes, heart disease and obesity, which also complicates breast cancer care.

The KAB Give Back Grant program seeks to counteract the injustice and inequality in the healthcare system through $500 financial aid grants.

Any breast cancer patient or survivor who is a woman of color living in the US may apply. Recipients and applicants of previous cycles are welcome to apply again each cycle. Grants are dependent on funding availability.

These are unrestricted grants, a feature somewhat unique to grant funding in the breast cancer community. This means there’s no limitations on how survivors and patients choose to use their grants. With the Give Back Grant program, our goal is to help support women of color, not make their breast cancer experience more difficult.

 GRANTS CAN BE USED FOR:

  • Medical Treatment (hospital bills, mental health, co-pays, rides, etc.)

  • Alternative Care (acupuncture, massage therapy, sound bath, etc.)

  • Financial (rent, utilities, groceries, etc.)

  • Business (investment in your own small business)

  • Essential Self Care (time off, vacation, meditation retreat, spa day)

Grants winners will be chosen by a diverse group of breast cancer survivors—
all of whom are previous GBG winners.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

100% of every dollar in the fund will go directly into the hands of women who need it. You can donate directly to KAB and/or you can fundraise for BIPOC women who are breast cancer survivors or have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Click “Start Fundraising” below to get started!

If you are unsure how to fundraise, click the “Learn More” button below for some helpful tips. Raising just $500 would fund one grant and we’d love your help to award as many grants as we can!
