Gun violence, mental health and the role of healthcare

Someone is killed with a gun every 10 hours in New York. Whether the result of suicide, domestic violence, gang related violence, school shootings, or another tragedy, exposure to gun violence causes lasting trauma to families and young people. It affects all New Yorkers.

The relationship between gun violence and mental health is complicated and often misunderstood. During this program, New York state health system psychologists will discuss the intersection between mental health and gun violence, including its connection to suicide, and considerations for the healthcare community when addressing these issues.

Gun Violence Prevention: The Hospital’s Role Series

This webinar series will focus on promising practices in gun violence prevention and will explore the causes and the effects of trauma and violence on individuals, communities and organizations. You will have the opportunity to learn from hospital professionals who will demonstrate how their organizations instituted changes to prevent further gun violence and respond to its aftermath, both in their facilities and in their communities.
