While Elvis Presley became the biggest name in music history and achieved worldwide fame and fortune, his roots in the Northeast Mississippi city of Tupelo were humble. Guests will experience the rural setting of Elvis' upbringing and see where it all began in the two-room house where the King of Rock ‘n' Roll was born on January 8, 1935, the church he attended in his youth and see artifacts from his modest beginnings. Hosted by Tom Brown, hear the stories from those who knew the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll best. Confirmed guests include Wink Martindale, a radio and television personality, witnessed the historic night at WHBQ in July of 1954, when Sam Phillips brought DJ Dewey Phillips the acetate copy of Elvis' first Sun Record "That's All Right" to be played on "Red, Hot, and Blue"; Sandra Gimpel, who danced in 15 Elvis movies and is one of the oldest living stunt women working in Hollywood today; Gene Chrisman, the drummer for the famed studio musicians The Memphis Boys, who played on Elvis’ recordings at American Sound; the Holladay sisters, Mary and Ginger, who recorded with Elvis at American Sound in 1969; plus Kiri Namtvedt, Senior Sculptor at Department 56 who created the new Snow Village piece, the Lisa Marie Airplane.

In 1969, Elvis returned to the Las Vegas stage where he broke attendance records and performed more than 600 shows. In honor of the 55th anniversary of Elvis’ return to Vegas, the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, along with musician and singer Terry Mike Jeffrey, present their annual Pops Concert live at Graceland Soundstage featuring the king’s music he brought to the Las Vegas stage in an unforgettable night of music. A fan favorite event and a can’t miss concert experience!

2023 marks the 55th anniversary Elvis’ recording at the Memphis-based American Sound Studio. Here, along with the Memphis Boys, they recorded so many fan favorite songs, including Suspicious Minds, Kentucky Rain, and Don’t Cry Daddy. Celebrate Elvis’ music borne out of American Sound with musician and singer Andy Childs, with special appearance by Pat Dunn, backed by the Sixwire Band, along with some special guests who were personally in the studio with Elvis – including drummer Gene Chrisman and backup singers the Holladay sisters – Ginger and Mary.

During Elvis’ Birthday Celebration, we will offer free morning walk-up visits to Meditation Garden from 7:30 am - 8:30 am on the mornings of January 5-8. Evening walk-up hours will be offered on Saturday, January 6, from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm. Due to other evening events and tours, no additional evening walk-up times will be available.
Meet Kiri Namtvedt, a Senior Sculptor at Department 56, who will be signing the Snow Village Lisa Marie Airplane, along with other Department 56 village pieces, at the new Enesco Gallery and Gift Shop Featuring Department 56. Namtvedt has purposed her creativity to drawing, sculpting, and developing figures and accessories across all the Department 56 Village and licensed lines. This will be Namtvedt’s first appearance at Graceland. Please note: Namtvedt will only be signing the Lisa Marie Airplane, Graceland, and other Department 56 Village pieces, either purchased at Graceland or in advance. These pieces will also be available at the Enesco Gift Shop at Graceland Crossing for purchase.
