Aliana Fagan spent her childhood traveling the world, dreaming of legendary heroes and mythical lands. But after the sudden death of her parents, she hides behind the safety of her camera and her art until a vivid recurring dream compels her to dig into her father's research about Avalon and Camelot. When she is hurled into a magical realm by forces she thought were only the stuff of fairy tales, she finds herself thrown into an adventure she could never have imagined. Nearly everything she thought she knew about Arthurian legend was wrong. The independent eighteen-year-old is shocked to find that the people of Avalon think that she is the Destined One, the only person who can summon King Arthur back to life from his hidden chamber. Most surprising of all is that it's up to her to lead the Knights of the Round Table on an epic quest-an adventure that will transport them across the seven magic realms to reclaim all that has been lost so they can defeat the evil Mordrid for good. But first, she must bring the ancient warriors into her world and reunite them with their lost brothers. Chaperoning the legendary knights-with-a-chivalry-complex as they navigate the modern world is a constant challenge, and she certainly never thought she'd be caught between her intense feelings for the noble Sir Galahad and her growing friendship with the King. To fulfill the prophecy, Aliana will have to discover the meaning of friendship, bravery, loyalty, true love, and forgiveness. But can she do it all in time to save the realms from Mordrid's impending Armageddon?

I loved this story! I love pretty much anything Arthurian and when I saw the synopsis for this book I knew I wanted to read it. The adventure is non stop and I adored the romance! I can't wait til the next book comes out bc there are some things that are left unexplained and I can't help but think there's a reason.

Alaina is eighteen in London and on her own. Her parents died tragically two years ago in the US leaving her feeling incomplete. She has a dream that reignites her passion for Avalon and to pick up her father's research and dive in where he left off. On a photo shoot in the country she accidentally enters Avalon and meets the Lady of the Lake. She is the "destined one" and has to save King Arthur, reunite the knights of the round table, and save Camelot before Mordrid wins and destroys everything. Is she up to the task?

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I was disapointed when I first started reading this book. I thought the writing felt a little off and the long descriptions bored me, but within a couple chapters I was taken by surprise when the story started to captivated me. The writing and the pace had a nice flow to it and the plot was entertaining. I wasnt expecting to enjoy this novel as much as I did. Ive never read a camelot retelling before but I know the basic story and I thought this reimagining was done wonderfully.

For centuries the Destined One has been prophecized to wake King Arthur, reunite the knights of the round table and defeat Mordrid. The main character Ali grew up learning about the Arthurian legends from her father who is a renowned reaseacher in his field. Along with her passion for anything related to King Arthur, Ali has a passion for photography and is quite successful at it. After her parents death she spends a lot of time travelling for her art when one day she stumbles upon Avalon. The adventure takes off from there.

For the most part I liked the main character but it drove me crazy how she kept thinking she only mattered because she's the Destined One. I understand shes been through a lot but she needs to stop hiding whats going on with her and realize people care about her. I would have told the knights what Lancelot said to her. I didnt like Lancelot and Merlin wasnt much better but I dont think I was suppose to like them. The other knights were likeable and they all had a distinct personality.

I thought Dagg and the Pixies were pretty awesome. I also liked her best friends and her cousin. There's a love triangle that felt a bit insta lovey but the love interests were sweet. The love interests could have been way too controlling but surprinsgly they werent that bad. Although they werent being very smart when they decided to leave her behind. Towards the end I got to see Mordrid becoming a threatening antagonist. I was able to predict most of what happened but it was still a whole lot of fun to read and I loved the world.

Aliana Fagan finds out she's the "Destined One" to wake up King Arthur, gather his Knights of the round table, find the Exaclibur in order to defeat Mordrd and Morgana to save Avalon. It's a lot for the 18 year old to take in, but is willing to do whatever it takes because it would be something her late father would have dreamed of doing. Ever since she was a little girl, her father told her the history of King Arthur and Camelot. Aliana is determined to learn and fight for Arthur and the knights, while trying to deal with her personal issues on taking chances and loss.

First off, I loved the idea of a retelling of King Arthur and Camelot. I like how the author made it her own and twisted what we know of the legend. For example: . The story moved pretty quickly, Aliana found the Galahad and Arthur quickly and then the rest of knights started showing up right after each other. That part to me felt too rushed but it's hard to introduce new characters, especially when you have a lot of them. I felt like in the beginning we got to know Owen but then once we met the other knights like Wade, who's her best friend, his name just gets mentioned. Once we get passed meeting everyone, the story picks up to figuring out to find the artifacts, the love triangle and Aliana trying to learn magic.

So I'm Team Galahad from the very beginning! They had chemistry from the very beginning when she saved him from his imprisonment. Galahad is the only one of the knights who stayed in Avalon to protect Arthur from his slumber. It's obvious he puts his duty before anyone else so he deserves Aliana. I couldn't help gush when Galahad and Aliana had their scenes together like when she's cooking breakfast in her flat or everytime Aliana is frustrated from one of her lessons with Merlin, she always goes to Galahad. I can't wait to read the second book to see how their relationship progresses!

Okay so when I read the summary for the book, I didn't think Arthur had a thing for Aliana too. It's obvious he does once you start reading so there's this love triangle. There's nothing wrong with him but he's to lenient and a pushover when it comes to Aliana. I mean Aliana basically described him as a "blanket" or "pillow". When a girl describes a guy she feels comfortable with, he's totally being friend zoned. Too bad Arthur is still learning to adapt to the modern world that he doesn't see it until it's too late. My heart when to him though when he compared Aliana and Galahad to Guinevere and Lancelot. I hope this mystery woman that keeps on coming up is real and not a figment of his imagination. He deserves a queen by his side, especially when he saves Camelot.

I like that we got to know about each one of the knights. However like I said before, once we meet another knight the previous ones tend to have smaller screen time later on. If I had remembered the names of the knights, I wouldn't caught on with Owen and Wade. That's cool to know the Aliana isn't in this alone, she had family and friends who are wrapped in this as well. There's Lacey who could've been spared but she's compensated with Percy so I think she's okay ;)

I enjoyed this first book so much that I can't wait to find out when the second one will be published! I'm dying to know how they're going to find Exaclibur, Arthur's feeling for Aliana and know what's up with Merlin and Lancelot. This retelling had me smiling and fangirling the whole time, I don't see why anyone wouldn't want to read this book? So go get it! :)

Aliana Fagen is not your normal 18 year old. She is destined to break a curse to wake up the once and future King Arthur. Aliana has no clue what adventure she is about to embark on to help save the world from the evil Mordrid.

Legendary for me is a book that you can sit and devour in one sitting. Author L.H Nicole bring a totally different spin on the Legend of King Arthur and his Knight of the Round table. By bringing them into this present day and age instead of transporting the main character into the past, as previous books and movies have done. I love how Aliana can hold her own against chivalrous men who only want to protect her and make sure she is out of harms way instead of letting her fight. Her witty humor and devotion to her friends will have readers easily connecting with her don't believe me here's a quote from Legendary“I don’t know who you really are, but if you know all you hint at, then you should know not to mess with me or my friends.” ~Aliana . Dagg is absolutely my favorite character with his snarkyness. I just love his interactions with Aliana <3.

Now on to the real issue I have with this book. L.H has me torn between wanting to be on Team Galahad and Team Arthur lol. I know I know I shouldn't have been serious but im just saying. Both of them are so swoon worthy. You will get to see Aliana's reaction to when she first meet Galahad (fans self) but what's a girl to do when you have two hot guys trying to protect you from a great evil.

And speaking of Evil. Mordrid wow is all I can say L.H has put together a really great villain that you would love to hate. And I do mean love because Mordrid is also a total hottie in a dark broody way(click here for mordrid's character sketch)

This is an awesome book to take you away from reality for a few hours. Trust me Legendary will suck you in with it's epic storyline and plot twist.

...Are you kidding me?

Mary Sue, insta-love, not written well, waste of a good skeletal plot. I don't completely hate it but...

Legendary is the first book in the young adult fantasy, the Legendary Saga by author L.H. Nicole. The Legendary Saga is a tale about King Aurther. I love Arthurian stories, so I knew this one would be right up my alley. I think this series will be perfect for fans of the tv show Merlin. That was the kind of King Arthur tale I was getting while reading Legendary.

Legendary is a quest story. It starts out in the time of King Arthur and we watch the faerie queen put a spell on him to put him to sleep until the destined one can come and awaken him. Then we flash forward a couple hundred years when the destined one stumbles her way into Avalon. Then it becomes her quest to get Arthur's helpers to get Arther. I love a quest story. For a while I felt like this was just going to be a solo mission, with Aliana venturing out on her own the whole time. But she is soon joined by Magic (a dragon) and Loyal (sir Galahad). I will warn you now that there is a love triangle. I know you can tell from the summary, but I am reserving judgment as to this triangle because I think it is going to be pretty flippy floppy during the Saga and I don't know whose side I am on yet.

Something I found very interesting with Legendary is the fact that each of the chapters start off with a little bit of thoughts from various characters in the story. It was a cool way to slip into the different characters heads and see what they were thinking about Aliana. I have never seen that done before and I really liked it. The book is told from Aliana's point of view so that was a cool touch.

Bottom line: If you are a fan of King Arthur tales, give the Legendary Saga a try. It starts off with a very classic King Arthur vibe, but as the book goes on there are modern spins thrown in. Some I really dug, some I thought were a bit weird, but overall it worked. I will be continuing this series for the simple fact that L. H. Nicole made me interested in what is going to happen next. If you are a looking for a new King Arthur/prophecy/quest story, try out Legendary and the Legendary Saga.

Legendary has so many unique qualities. It was very refreshing to read something different and out of the box for a change. I never read a book quite like this before and I was shocked at how much I enjoyed it. This series has amazing potential and was a good read. It took me a few chapters to get into it and know what was going on, but when I did I was glued to my ipad for hours. I loved the story of the Destined one and how she came to be. I liked how all the characters related somehow. The romance in the book was just enough. It left me guessing who she would choose in the end, the King with all the power or the Kings right hand man. I absolutely loved the talking dragon named Dagg. He added the right amount of humor to give the book a serious yet comical story. In the end the missing pieces starting fitting together and I can't wait to see how the second book ends. Overall this was a great read and I'm ready to see what can happen between the characters in the next book.

I'm going to recommend this book based on the author making the legend of Arthur and Camelot, and the characters, her own.

I received a free e-ARC through NetGalley from the publishers at Omnific Publishing. Trigger warning: attempted rape.

Two years after the death of her parents, Aliana Fagan accidentally stumbles into a magical realm while she’s on a photoshoot in an obscure part of the English countryside. All her life, her parents chased down legends of Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, and now the story is coming to life before her eyes. Aliana is destined to wake King Arthur so his knights reincarnated can once again join forces to defeat the evil sorcerer, Mordrid. A couple of thousand-year-old knights in the twenty-first century turn out to be the least of Aliana’s problems when she discovers magic of her own, which may be the key to saving her new friends.

This is a cute concept and a fun read overall. All the retellings of Arthurian legends I’ve read have taken place in medieval England, and I like the idea of making the story more contemporary. They all adjust reasonably well, and I wish there would have been more ancient knights vs. technology in the book because that seems like a missed opportunity for humor. Nicole has set up an interesting world with a lot of room for exploration though. The first half of the novel takes place in Avalon, the second in the human world, but she hints at other magical realms (such as Olympus and Atlantis) that would be fascinating to explore.

Aliana’s a fairly standard heroine. Despite the loss of her parents, she’s got a wide-eyed innocence about her that’s charming, and she’s fundamentally good but not without inner conflict. The dialogue is a little clunky at times; I have a hard time believing in an eighteen-year-old character who says “Son of a biscuit” and talks to herself so often, but okay. As a unit, the knights are a little overwhelming. Men outnumber the women by about 4:1, and I don’t understand why fantasy stories can’t have female knights! I would have been so on board for a female knight story. As it is, their combined masculinity is somewhat oppressive. (Woman stay home. Man go out and fight.) Aliana’s physical abilities are almost completely discounted once they show up. She’s studied martial arts for most of her life and suddenly becomes a damsel in distress. I did have fun casting them all as members of The Avengers though (Galahad as The Winter Soldier, Merlin as Loki, Percy as Thor…).

My favorite character is easily Dagg the dragon, in part because he has a great relationship and rapport with Aliana, and in part because there’s no chance of romance in that relationship. I’m not fond of love triangles, and I don’t see why Arthur was ever a love interest for Aliana when it’s clear from the beginning that she and Galahad have bonded. It’s not even a major point of contention, just a side note that we wouldn’t even be aware of were it not for the occasional quote from his perspective. I’m not a huge fan of Galahad as a love interest either, because of all the he-men, he’s the he-manniest, but I can see its appeal to a teenage demographic.

The writing isn’t wonderful, but it isn’t distracting. The plot is well-paced and keeps the story moving, while still giving Aliana the occasional downtime to process everything that’s happening to her, and it’s a good balance of action and character development. There are a handful of things that I thought were going to be plot points that don’t really play out. The first is that Aliana mentions an ex-boyfriend who tried to rape her, but it seems to have no resulting trauma and the novel never really attempts to deal with it. It seems like an event that serious should be more than just a passing detail. The other is that we never find out why Aliana feels her parents’ death is her fault. A lot of her history is filled in slowly over the course of the novel, and while that may come up later in the series, it seems like something that essential should have been covered by now. Overall, it’s a fairly light and easy read. I enjoyed the story and the characters, but I’m on the fence about continuing with the series.

This was a pretty good start to a trilogy following King Arthur, with a twist. Decent pacing, world building, and storyline. A bit boring in places in the second half, and not as funny as I wanted. The romance was alright. Love triangle. I was rooting for the other guy. I will likely read book two, as I like King Arthur. I do hope Aliana gets over her "I'm just the key/the Destined one to everyone" thing. It got annoying.

First off, I have to say, Knights at the round table, King Arthur, Avalon.. what?! I am so excited I can't even stand myself! Just reading the prologue...

"So it begins." The queen departed for the mortal realm, a cunning smirk on her lips, satisfaction bright on her face."

I mean that alone, right there just really catches my fancy...

The story follows the story of Aliana an 18 year old girl, who learns about her destiny after she travels through to Avalon, a place she only used to see in her dreams. Her path was laid before her by the lady of the lake, she has to free loyalty and magic, awaken King Arthur and reunite the Knights of the Round Table in order to defeat Mordrid and Morgana. No pressure!! The journey leads her through the ruins where the Sidhe roam, meeting the "witch" to assure her passage, awakening the king and on to fulfill her destiny!!

The writing in this story was beautifully written, very descriptive and detailed. For example:

"Her skin was as pale as snow, and her almond-shaped eyes were as blue as the depths of the ocean and surrounded by thick, coal black lashes. Her dress was the palest of blue, draping off her shoulders and hips in perfect Grecian style. Strips of silk laced with pearls formed sleeves, and she wore a long, beaded sash around her waist."

Another thing I absolutely loved was at the beginning of each chapter she would put some quote from a character about their thoughts. Almost like a diary entry! It was interesting to get the inside scope of how they were feeling after something just happened, or something was going to happen! Of course, that's just my thing..diaries. I like getting into people's minds and thoughts. Luckily, I didn't have an older sibling to harass.

Throughout the book I thought of Chris Hemsworth in Thor as Galahad. This quote especially:

"What kind of magic is this?" he asked Daggerhorne.
Aliana answered, "It's not magic. It's technology. You'll get used to it."

This made me laugh out loud, thinking about how weird it must be for Galahad and King Arthur to come to the modern world. Almost as bad as us going back in to the days of Camelot!

I have yet to find another book like this, not to say there isn't one out there, I just haven't found it! I loved going to Medieval Times, you know the dinner show thing..The renaissance festival, heck I even played The Sims Medieval. This should tell you how much I LOVE going back to those times, even if it is all make believe. While the story isn't set in Camelot...I'm hoping one of these times it can be.....Or at least flash backs too the times in Camelot (That may be wishful thinking..) Of course, the best part about the fact that she brought the characters to the present rather than the past, is that I don't think it's been done?!

My favorite character would have to be Wade..or maybe it would Dagg. Ok, so I'm torn between the two. I love how LH wove Wade into her story. The connection between Aliana and her stated "big brother" character was amazing. The dance scene between the two at a masquerade showed just how comfortable Aliana was with him, how she always knew she could count on him for anything. As for Dagg, I loved the relationship between him and Aliana. He was truthful and loyal to her no matter what. Even if she did make some stupid decisions, he would chastise her and move on. He could feel what she felt and was always there to calm her nerves and serve as her protector. He was witty and kind hearted..to bad he was a dragon! But then, you see, there would be a square rather than triangle of love.

This brings us to Arthur vs Galahad. Ok, we always have to have teams when it comes to these types of things, Edward vs Jacob, Dimitri vs Adrian, Maxon vs Aspen..Oh the list could go on.. There are things I like about both characters, but as of right now, if I HAD to pick a side, I'm all about Galahad. I go for the more outgoing character. Galahad just has that fierce, protector, spontaneity thing going for him. Arthur, though the king, just seems to be more on the side-lines. He's the one you could call "friend-zoned." That hurts me for him! He seems to really care for Aliana, but he keeps just watching from the side-lines instead of jumping right in. Aliana is torn about how all of the knights feel about her. She just feels like a key to their quest, so with that being said...she needs someone to smack her upside the head so she understands she's so much more! Who wouldn't love to have all these hot, protective warriors pawning over them!

Another character I'm really excited to get to know is Mordrid. Oh honey! LH could not have made a better villian! He has that mysterious, tall, dark, and handsome thing going for him! I've always had a soft spot for the "bad boy" though. I'll be excited to see what's in store for Mordrid in the upcoming novels. I want to know more! AHH!!!

So, 5 stars it is to this LEGENDARY book! I loved it and I can't wait to see what is in store for Aliana, King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, and yes even Mordrid and Morgana! If you love the medieval times like I do or just love the idea of hot, brawny knights protecting you. Definitely give this book a read! You won't regret it!

Review also appeared on my blog Pages Full of Stars.

I have received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Legendary is L.H. Nicole’s debut novel and the first book in a Legendary Saga. It’s a unique modern twist on Arthurian legends and an entertaining and fun tale of loyalty, bravery and adventure.

Our main character, 18-year old Aliana Fagan, has always been passionate about Arthurian legends and adventure, something that she shared with her father. Ever since her parents’ death and a shocking revelation about her past, Aliana begins to hide behind her camera more and more. Until one night when a strange dream pushes her to embark on a search of a cave that soon leads her to the magical Land of Avalon. Aliana is amazed when she finds out that not only is it different from the realm she knew from the legends, but also that she is supposed to be the Destined One, the only person who can help bring King Arthur back.

My rating: 4/6

I must admit that I love everything connected to Arthuriana, so I was really happy to get a chance to read Legendary. It started a bit slowly but once we met our protagonist, the action picked up.

I thought that Legendary was a really fresh and creative take on the legends. The story was fun to follow and I found it especially interesting to watch as the legends we all know came to life in front of Aliana and she slowly learned the truth about them. The connection between magical realm and our world was really nicely written and I really liked this version of Avalon, full of fabulous magical creatures but still with the elements we know from the myths. I highly enjoyed the way the story of the Battle of Camlann was told as well as the take on Arthur/Lancelot/Guinevere relationship and I was extremely amused by the Arthur and Galahad’s struggle to fit in the present times.
And I just have to say this, without spoiling anything, but I absolutely loved all the references to other tales, mythologies and pop culture that I found throughout the book! It was a huge fun to recognise them all and try to make connections, it felt a bit like an Easter Egg hunt, that’s present in some media nowadays.

I really enjoyed following Aliana’s story. She’s a spunky and independent heroine, who’s able to hold her own and take care of herself. She’s not perfect and has to deal with some issues and fears, which makes her relatable and easily likeable. One of my favourite characters was definitely Dagg, who’s snarky remarks made for many humorous moments, and Gawain, who was my favourite knight (and whom I need more of, please :D). I also really enjoyed the knights and their interactions. It was fun to watch them fight, banter and joke around. But we cannot forget about our intriguing protagonists, Mordrid and Morgana, who together with Sidhe proved to be worthy opponents for our heroes.

The one thing that I dislike was the relationship between Aliana and Galahad, and the love triangle it later turns into. Even though for the most part I saw it as a physical attraction rather than love, it really seemed rushed. I felt that Aliana got familiar with Galahad way too quickly, while in reality he was a complete stranger. What surprised me was that Aliana actually noticed that herself but in the end it made no difference. I also found it extremely difficult to like Galahad. His first comment about Aliana felt really disturbing and he was too possessive and agressive, even when you take into consideration the times he lived in. His behaviour even scared me at times and just didn’t sit right with me. Moreover, the love triangle felt rather unbelievable as well, to the point when it became annoying.

The writing was engaging and easy to follow, although at times I felt like some of the chapters ended in strange moments. But since the story followed immediately, it didn’t take away from the reading experience. I liked it that the pieces of the puzzle started to fall into place as the story unfolded, yet at the same time we were still left with unanswered questions, that leave the room for the next books.

In conclusion, Legendary by L.H. Nicole proved to be a great first installment of an intriguing new series. If you’re a fan of adventure and romance with a side of magic or would like to read a fresh twist on Arthurian legends, this is the book for you!

I absolutely love books that re-imagine King Arthur and Camelot's legends. I don't read many of them (this is maybe my first), but that's certainly going to change. As well as reading the actual myths and legends. I have read Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, which was an awesome poem written in the 14th century. But that's about it, and I'm going to be changing that, because I love the legends of King Arthur, the Knights of the Round Table, Merlin, Morgan LeFay, and Camelot.

Rating: 4 Magical Stars!

This book was told in 3rd person narrative, which I much prefer when it comes to fantasy novels. I don't know why, except it just always sounds better. I liked the additions of other characters' POVs at the beginning of the chapters, though I'm not sure if all of them really helped the story-line or the growth of Aliana. I don't think all of them tied together, but maybe that will change once the series continues. And I want to read the sequel so badly!

The main character, Aliana, was a little bit of a Mary Sue. She was the special Destined One, and she didn't seem to have a problem with any obstacles thrown her way. But I loved her character. I loved that she was strong and didn't back down when she had to do the right thing or when the guys were being overprotective. She was a fierce warrior but she could be reckless. I loved that she had insecurities and made mistakes as any real-life person would. But well past the halfway point, I wasn't feeling like she'd been growing much. It almost felt like she backtracked. A lot of it had to do with her insecurities surrounding Galahad and Arthur, her uneasiness about magic, and the looming threat of Mordrid. But she grew on me a lot, and I started to understand how she felt and thought about everything. It just didn't help that her head was clouded with a pushy love triangle and she had a need to be perfect all the time.

Speaking of pushy love triangle, I was not a total fan of this one. For some reason, it just felt like it was being, well, pushed on the reader and the main character. It started to annoy me a little bit. It's clear that Aliana develops true feelings for only one of the guys, but the little tidbits of POVs in the beginning of the chapters tried to sell another angle. It is totally reasonable that maybe more than one of the knights would be attracted to her. But it didn't feel genuine with the other guy. Maybe in the sequel I'll understand why Aliana felt two equally strong bonds between Galahad and Arthur. But for now, I'm just going to stick with the couple I ship. And their romance was so sweet and genuine; the chemistry between them was there from the start.

And oh, how I loved the secondary characters! The main reason I wanted to read this book was because of the knights and Arthur. I loved their interactions and the friendships that they had with each other. It was so nice to see such strong bonds, even after hundreds of years. They each had their own personalities, and I loved how the author brought them to life in the pages of this book.

The plot was slow-paced, but I didn't mind it so much. There was a lot of action, some quiet moments amid the tension and danger. The obstacles the main character and knights went through were a little easy to maneuver around or defeat, though. There is this looming sense of battle and war, but the characters have a slightly easy road. But I loved where the story headed, and I'm excited to see what happens in the sequel. A lot of questions are left unanswered!

I loved the author's writing style, the main character's voice, and how she drew me into the story from the beginning. Legendary was a wonderfully written fantasy that retells the story of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. All the while with a modern flair and a sassy main character who will do whatever it takes to save the people she loves.

Taking on the legend of King Arthur is no small task, but L.H. Nicole crafts her story with love and passion bringing Avalon to life with this clever and magical spin on the hero's journey. Eighteen year old Aliana finds that her taste for adventure and passion for the Arthurian legends are not just chance, rather they are part of her fate. As the Destined One, it is up to Aliana to travel a dangerous path to find Arthur and return him to his former glory. Of course, there are knights and gobblins, magical creatures and magicians, mysteries and battles, and a little romance to keep it all balanced. And a pegasus -- there is a pegasus! Also a dragon, a wonderfully snarky dragon. Seriously, the magical creatures alone make this story worth reading.

Legendary is the perfect weekend escape book. Getting lost in the beauty and drama of this new take on the old stories was a welcome escape from reality. Of course, most people will focus on all the heroics, and I admit that Aliana is a confident, quirky, and strong protagonist. But for me, the stories have always been about Merlin, Mordrid, and Morgana. What would Arthur be without his durid? Who would Merlin be were it not for Mordrid? Every hero needs a worthy opponent and L.H.Nicole has given readers that tenfold in her version of Mordrid and the menacing Sidhe.

Some of the best moments in the book come from watching characters out of their natural elements. Without giving away too many details, there are some fantastic moments that involve the knights of Avalon discovering technology and some equally wonderful moments watching Aliana try to wrap her head around the fantastical world of Avalon. And for all you Shakespeare fans, there's even some (pretty big) nods to the Bard's works. Honestly, this book has a little bit of everything. If you're a fan of the classic Arthur legends or, like me, if you are feeling loss over the ending of BBC's Merlin, this is a book for you. If you've never read or watched any iteration of the Arthurian legends, but the idea of escaping into a mystical fantasy that blends the ordinary and the extraordinary, this is the book for you. If you like adventure and romance, this is the book for you. Basically, just go read this book, you won't regret it.

I loved this book, with that being said I did have a couple of items I did not like. *some spoilers may be contained. this is a quick broad overview* The book moves very quick as far as introducing characters, romances, and locations. over all story wise it is great!
Aliana Fagan's adoptive parents pass away sending her on a search of her real mother living in London. Her mother unfortunately has already passed away. She does find her cousin Owen thought.
When I started reading I assumed the whole book would be either looking for Avalon or In Avalon. It moves much quicker spending a short time in London in the beginning then a Day in Avalon (Not even an entire Day) and then they are back in London again. I wish More time building up to Avalon would of been spent on the book as well as more time building a Visual Description on Avalon. I couldn't really get a good Picture going in my mind of all of the locations and what was going on. Once back in London and some more of the knights start showing up some more time on character development is shown which I quite enjoy at first I thought the romance between Galahad and King Author was rushed. I would of liked to see more of a build up there at the beginning of the story. the little notes/Perspective of the other characters at the beginning of each section is very helpful and insightful for the other characters. Other than that I really liked the ending of this book it led up for a great translation for the next book to start off.

I had the pleasure of being an early reader on this story. Legendary is a great modern twist on Arthurian legend that is made even more fun by being told from the perspective of the spunky, fun, and funny Aliana. The eighteen-year-old is dealing with a lot---the untimely death of her parents, huge responsibilities being piled on her---but though her emotions sometimes crash around her, she's anything but morose.

A lively spark is present throughout this whole story, and the pacing is done just right. I enjoyed so much about this book, but probably my favorite part was watching the knights react to being plunged into the modern world. Their reactions were just too funny. By the time Legendary finishes, Aliana is surrounded by a host of fantastic characters---each as intriguing, entertaining, and charming as the next...welllll, perhaps some charmed me above and beyond *ahem, Galahad*

Even with all the adventure, action & romance packed into Legendary, after I read the last page, I immediately began salivating for the next installment of this wonderful series.

I had high expectations for this series, and when I first started reading it, it totally lived up to them! The story was unique and exciting. But the longer I kept reading, the more I felt like I had to push myself though the end of this story. I almost think there were too many plot points in this first book. I was completely invested in the story throughout the adventure in Avalon. (I'm trying not to include any spoilers here). Once that part of the adventure wrapped up, though, I started to get a little detached from the story. Honestly, if that initial adventure had been expanded into its own book, I feel like this series could've done much better! I just feel like my attention was pulled in too many different ways. I'm also not a fan of insta love, which was pretty prevalent in this one. It's not a bad story. Just not really my cup of tea.

Aliana has always been extremely into mythological legends. So, when she's thrown into the world where Camelot and King Arthur lives, she couldn't be happier exploring this fascinating world. However, she finds that almost everything we've been told isn't completely true.

This story had me from the very first word. The world the author built was awesome. I could imagine it perfectly. Aliana was a great MC. She was fun and determined. I thought getting to "meet" all the different knights was really interesting. The romance was great. Although, I was extremely curious how that would end up since she was in another realm. The solution to that was perfect. I promise, you'll enjoy this adventure.

I first heard about this book while attending the RT Convention in Dallas. My friend and I went to a panel to meet another author and ended up intrigued by LH Nicole's series. I bought the book and the book fair (the very last one) and read it on the plane home and while visiting relatives in Kentucky. OMG!!!!! My dad used to read me Arthurian legends when I was little but this is so much less depressing. The Knights are of course gorgeous but still have substance and Aliana makes me life with her observations of them. I have the second book and cannot wait to read it and for the rest of the series to come out. If you enjoy retellings of any sort then this is a great book!!! I am so grateful to have stumbled upon this little gem.

~~~~~~~~~~Dee's ★★★★★ Review~~~~~~~~~~
A modern day fairy tale. Filled with mystery, magic, fairies, pixies, evil queens and magicians. Ariana is the one chosen to restore King Arthur, the Knights of the Round Table and Camelot. On her quest, there are many exciting adventures. Battles against overwhelming odds, powerful magic and meeting many strange and legendary creatures keeps one captivated from beginning to end. There is even a little love interest. This book beautifully fulfills the interests of a reader into paranormal adventures. I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Five Stars.
Legendary is the perfect title for this book. I loved meeting Aliana and going along on this adventure with King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. This wasn't a book I would ordinarily read, but I was ask for my honest opinion and I fell in LOVE. This story was the right mix and even more than I ever would have expected.
I am looking forward to reading the Saga all the way to the end (boo at the thought there will be one).
I highly recommend this novel and all the others that may follow. This will be a story I will share with my daughter!
This book is a great retelling of the story of King Arthur and Camelot. After finishing, I do have a few questions, but hopefully those will be answered in the next book. The knights were all pretty amazing, but Dagg, the dragon, was definitely my favorite character. All in all, I thought this book set up what will hopefully be a great series.
Legendary is a book by a new to me author and it’s a story about one of my weaknesses: Arthurian themes. So when I saw this book on Netgalley, I just couldn’t not request it. After reading it, it would have been better if I did. It wasn’t that the book was terribly horrible, but rather that it has a lot to live up to and failed live up to expectations.
In short, there is a great big hero (in this case the Destined One) who has a quest, instant love and a perfect character and the pitfall of every Young Adult story: a love triangle.
Our main character is Aliana who’s grown up on stories of King Arthur and his knights and a desire to find Avalon. The story really starts when she does find Avalon and learns she has to go on this epic quest. No pressure there. Along the way she meets of with quite the cast of characters. Some likable, some not, but all - apart from the established characters - suffered from totally unfitting names that just didn’t quite blend with the rest. The naming felt too forced to me.
The bones of the story is not bad and this story could have been great, but Aliana is a character that fails to meet up to expectation. She nears mary Sue-ish regions too much for me to like her as a character with such a great destiny and in the company of such big names. She comes across as a character who is flawed, but then she ticks all the right hero-boxes.
The part that didn’t help much either was that the writing was too much on the amateuristic side for me. It was too obvious, to starry and too stiff and forced. There was too much telling and not experiencing the story and too many infodumps. Because of that the author failed to really draw me into the story. It’s definitely not the first time, I don’t like a female lead, but did like the story. For Legendary there was too many factors combined for me to like the story.
To be fair, there are a lot of great books to live up too and I do liked the idea of the story, just not the execution. It could be that I’ve become too jaded for the young adult genre and there will probably be readers out there who love this, it just didn’t work for me.
When I chose to read Legendary, I read it in the hopes that it would take a old and well known legend and give it a fun, modern twist similar to the Grimm sisters series. Boy was I wrong! The writing of this novel wasn't elementary level at best. In 5th grade I feel like I could have done a better job at writing this book! The backstory is confusing and weak with plot holes. Initially the main character says that she can't remember her parents, but later she is fondly remembering her mother's laugh which was confusing. The author goes for the good old "parents killed in a car crash when MC was young" trope in a weak attempt to create depth in this one dimensional character.
Legendary is about a girl named Alaina discovering that she is the Destined One who is meant to help King Arthur and his fellow knights defeat Mondrid. The Aliana's initial fascination in the legend of the Knights of the Round Table came from her father, and she devotes part of her life to learning everything about it, kind of like a Lara Croft on crack without the wicked fighting skills and common sense. Alaina is also an idiot who is far too trusting of individuals and can't protect herself at all despite claiming to take jiu jitsu or something. Like every cliché YA book in existence, King Arthur and one of his knights instantly fall in love with the dumb ninny that is Alaina creating a love triangle that made me gag every time it was brought up. The beginning of each chapter featured the thoughts of some of the knights and despite being a weak character with an astounding ability to get herself in trouble, all the knights see is the "sorrow and pain from her constant sacrifices" and how beautiful she is (because it isn't a YA book without a beautiful main character who is not aware she is beautiful). This is definitely one of the worst books I have ever read in my life. All I can hope is that whoever reads this review isn't mislead by the kinder ones surrounding it. I am saving you from a few hours of torture!
An interesting modern take on an ancient legend. Definitely a book for young adults I think, or maybe its just me feeling old reading this!!
When a woman rises out of the lake, and tells Aliana that she is the chosen one, only she can awake Arthur and his men to defeat the evil that is coming, Aliana feels compelled to start on this adventure. Her role now is finding and freeing King Arthur and helping to gather the Knights. And since the story is set in modern times there is also a bit of a learning curve for the Knights to adjust into the modern world.
There is so much in this book: action, adventure, many realms, fantasy, time travel even a love story. A modern-day fairy tale, filled with mystery, magic, fairies, pixie's, evil queens and magicians, elves, goblins, a Pegasus, and even a guardian dragon!
There are so many wonderful characters that surround Aliana by the end of the book. A king, Knights Of The Round Table, Sir Galahad and many more and each character is unique and entertaining in their own right.
And no book of this kind would be complete without evil villains! Morgana and Mordrid are the villains that spice this book up and are just brilliant! I loved them!!
I am glad that this is not the end of the journey for Aliana and her men, but instead just the beginning of what I know will be an epic quest.
Legendary was published way back in February 2014 so I have discovered this book very late! But the good thing with that is I won't have to wait for the next book to come out!!
I used to be a sucker for King Arthur/Round Table stuff. Total sucker. Watched all the TV shows/movies that I could. Loved reading the stories in English class. But, sad to say, I think I've moved past that point, now.
It wasn't a bad book, even if it was a little cliched at times. The writing, at times, felt a little juvenile, but I know no author is perfect. I'm a pretty lenient reader. But after reading about the Destined One and our MC's antics once she reaches Camelot (not to mention the sort-of love triangle? that ensues...), I was confused as to how to rate this. I'm sure I would've adored it when I was in junior high. Now, I can't make myself give it any more than three stars. I'm disappointed in myself, more so than the book, because how times have changed.
Yes, I do realize this review isn't such a great review, but that's because I don't really have much to say about it, besides the whole wasn't-that-into-it thing. Anyway, thank you to Netgalley for the copy of the book. It in no way influenced my review.
