Chris' Creek Fire Relief Fund

As a longtime member of our Shaver Lake mountain community, Chris Vlahavas has been more than just a resident and neighbor of the area.  She is a caring, loving friend, mother, grandmother, educator and business owner.  Chris helped shape, build and grow all that she touched in this community.

You may know Chris from her early days as the first female chair lift operator at China Peak in the early 1970’s.

Or, you may know her and the Vlahavas family as the original owners of the Hungry Hut.   From 1972 to 2003, she worked tirelessly to make the Hungry Hut more than just another restaurant in Shaver Lake.  Chris poured all of her love and dedication into the Hut.  She made it about family and about the mountain community.  Her personal and professional investment into the business is why the Hungry Hut continues to be a sought after destination for residents and visitors year after year.

Or finally, you may know Chris as the loving, but stern, educator from her 23 years serving and supporting the community as a teacher of K-4th grades.  She taught countless children at Auberry Elementary and Foothill Elementary from 1996 to 2019.  She was adored by her students and changed the lives of many during her tenure.

Regardless of how you know Chris, we know one thing to be true.  It's hard to find anyone in the community who has not felt the amazing impact of her presence,  her spirit, and her endless contributions.

We are devastated to share that Chris' home was burned and her possessions gone as the Creek Fire tore through the mountainside she resided on.  Everything she worked so hard for has been deemed a complete loss.  As she begins to navigate through this time of grief and loss, any support you could share with her at this time would be greatly appreciated.

Chris has given so much to the the community over the past 48 years.  Your thoughts, prayers, words of encouragement,  and donations will mean the world to Chris and her family.

This campaign is being organized by her daughter, Estelle (Fresno, CA) and niece, Kristy (Edgewater, MD).  All donations will go directly to Chris from her immediate needs (shelter, clothing, food) and long-term relief as she faces the challenge of rebuilding.
