My first graders want to eagerly understand. However, limited exposure to books, computers/internet, and limited English students enter the classroom energetically smiling and ready to learn despite any challenges they may face.
More than half are one to two grade levels behind the standards for first grade at the beginning of the school year, but they have tremendous potential for growth.
My students depend on me for structure and security. In time students develop the awesomeness, resilience, and grit needed to make major progress in first grade. Our classroom "family" thrives with our passion for learning.
My Project
We need light jackets to help us regulate temperature. The classroom gets chilly when the air-conditioner turns on and it gets warm when the air-conditioner turns off. Also, the classroom is warm when the heater is on and the classroom gets chilly when the heater is off. The wonderful navy blue lightweight jackets will help students focus on academic success by providing an easy access to warmth if necessary.
Caring for the basic needs such as a jacket in the classroom for each student provides the foundation for students to be prepared to learn and to be able to focus on the motivating learning tasks before them.
