DECREASE THE PRICE OF ONLINE CLASSES AT GVSU!
DECREASE THE PRICE OF ONLINE CLASSES AT GVSU!
Why this petition matters
To keep us safe, Grand Valley State University will have online / hybrid classes for the Fall of 2020. Due to the amount of COVID-19 accommodations they have made to our campus, they have increased our tuition by THREE Percent. Myself and others have found our schedules to be changed to completely online, therefore we will NOT physically be on campus. My issue is here: Covered under our tuition, we pay for the recreation center, library, computer labs, printers, the bus, the "free" t-shirts at pep rallies, the food pantry, and the counseling, career, and academic centers, etc.
Why are we paying for all of these amenities, especially if they are closed or at half capacity?
PLUS a 3% increase in tuition rates?
PLUS the lack of having a choice between a traditional class or a discounted online class?
PLUS the fact that GVSU requires you to finish your last 30 credits as a Laker which leaves worried seniors at a big loss.
PLUS last semester which we, as a whole, received 0 compensation for regardless of how clueless the professors were.
Who funds GVSU? We do.
And? The 133 million dollar endowment.
And? The 9 million dollars they received through the CARES ACT to help aid those in need.
But we have to pay 3% more?
Some comparable background research:
-Central Michigan University is continuing a hybrid learning model with a 0% increase in tuition rates.
-University of Michigan has only increased tuition by 1.9%. AND is also giving them the choice to move back home and learn online OR return to Ann Arbor for a hybrid experience.
Sign the petitions, Email the president's office, write a letter to the county clerk! This is unjust and we deserve more.
