Why this petition matters

On April 21st, the Henderson Mayor and City Council will discuss a $60 million bond issue for various city projects, including $40 million for a hockey arena at the Henderson Pavilion.  After the discussion they will vote to approve or not approve the bond.

We long-time residents of Henderson want the city to postpone or not approve the funding of a proposed arena until a later date when we can thoroughly vet the proposal bond offering.  As we understand it, the bond is split so $20 million is for needed improvements to parks and a new police substation in West Henderson and $40 million is slated to convert the Henderson Pavilion into an enclosed hockey arena.

We the citizens of Henderson Nevada say no, we don't want to burden our city with increased debt for this nonessential project.

We want to see the plans the city is hiding from us for a new offramp on Green Valley Parkway and on Carnegie, parking structure at the pavilion, a new tunnel under Green Valley Parkway, etc.

Traffic is already a nightmare on Green Valley Parkway.   This will only make it worse

It is essential that city funds only be allocated to essential projects and needs right now.  This week more than 250,000 Nevadans filed for unemployment.  This means that there will be a shortfall in tax revenue for the City.

Given the current economic crisis, there can be a graceful out for both the City of Henderson and the Golden Nights.  The City should recognize that in the face of an economic disaster—a less expensive and better site will be chosen for an arena (west Henderson or by the Galleria Mall area.)

Please halt the vote on the bond issue.
