Statement from Highland Cove regarding COVID-19

Updated: Wednesday, April 29, 1:50 p.m. MDT

The Highland Cove Assisted Living community in Salt Lake City, Utah, has confirmed twenty residents and nine staff have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus as of April 18, 2020. Tests were conducted on all residents and staff on April 11. All residents, regardless of symptoms, have been in isolation in their own apartments since April 5, 2020. Thirteen of the twenty residents are being treated inhouse and are now recovering well. Unfortunately, seven residents have passed at local hospitals with complications from the coronavirus. Our community mourns this loss and would like to express our deepest sympathies to the families impacted.

Since the beginning of this pandemic crisis, the Highland Cove community has been working closely with the local Salt Lake County Health Department, including daily communication and weekly in-person visits during which all residents are re-tested for the virus. The community continues to isolate and follow their COVID-19 protocol which is aligned with CDC guidelines and approved by the local health department. We are grateful for their partnership.

Additionally, Highland Cove's Executive Director and Director of Nursing have been in regular communication with residents and families regarding all patient updates and how their loved ones are being cared for. Our staff is highly trained in infectious disease protocols, and those protocols have been put in place since March 13, 2020.

Overall, the health, safety, security and comfort of our residents and teams is our top priority. We are truly grateful for the support of our encouraging family members, patient residents and tireless staff.
