DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — A search warrant issued for the phone of a Kinston man charged with killing his father inside a Durham home reveals that the man sent disturbing texts and photos to a coworker.
Authorities say 33-year-old Chivalry Alexander Moore murdered his father, 60-year-old Willie Moore, whose body was found inside the Tomahawk Trail home where he lived.
Moore was in a standoff with deputies for five hours on Jan. 8 after authorities responded to the home in reference to a welfare check.
According to officials, Moore told an acquaintance he had killed a family member at the home. That person then called authorities who responded to the house.
The Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Team arrived on scene and made “repeated attempts” to make contact with the person inside the home.
After those failed attempts, the deputies entered the home and took the suspect into custody, the sheriff’s office said.
Chivalry Moore was shot by a deputy during the incident, the SBI confirmed.
On Jan. 10, authorities identified the man found dead inside as Willie Moore.
According to a search warrant obtained by CBS 17, Chivalry Moore “sent text messages to a co-worker at UPS talking about killing his father. He also sent 2 photos as well depicting a bloody floor and wall” along with the body of a man.
Upon execution of a search warrant for the home, investigators found the scene to match the photos that Moore sent to his coworker, according to court documents.
The cellphone that is the subject of the search warrant was also found at the bloody scene inside the home.
Moore has been charged with murdering his father. He is being held without bond after a court hearing on Monday morning.
The deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on leave, pending an SBI and internal investigation. The deputy has been with the sheriff’s office since 2013.
