SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Border Report) — The Coronavirus is having many effects along our southern border, according to the Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies at the University of California San Diego.
The impacts are being felt in both countries’ economies, communities and immigration policies, said Rafael Fernandez de Castro who runs the center.
“This is hitting the U.S. hard and it will hit Mexico. We’re intertwined with huge dependencies between the two countries,” he said.
Fernandez de Castro believes there’s a lot of misinformation and rumors throughout the southern border region leading to uncertainty and fear.
As a way to educate the public, his department is putting on a series of COVID-19 webinars to bring knowledge and understanding to communities in both countries.
The latest is this Friday at 9 a.m. P.S.T. World-renown economists, journalists and border experts will participate and offer insight into what’s going on with the virus.
“We should combat this together that’s why we’re putting together this series of webinars,” said Fernandez de Castro.
