Georgia U.S. Rep. Lucy McBath on Wednesday endorsed presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg's campaign for president, two years after his gun control group spent more than $4.5 million on her bid for Congress.

The Marietta Democrat became a spokeswoman for his Bloomberg’s organization, Everytown for Gun Safety, after her son was murdered. She joins a small cast of Georgia officials who have backed the former New York mayor’s campaign.

“I first met Mike when I was searching for ways to fight against the dangerous gun laws that ripped my son from my life,” McBath said in a statement. “Mike gave grieving mothers like me a way to stand up and fight back. Nobody running for president has done more for the gun violence prevention movement than Mike.”

McBath is the second of Georgia's five Democratic U.S. House members to pick sides in the 2020 race. U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop earlier endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden.

The other three Democratic members of Georgia's delegation – Reps. Hank Johnson of Lithonia, John Lewis of Atlanta, and David Scott of Atlanta – have yet to endorse. All nine GOP congressman from Georgia are on President Donald Trump's re-election committee.
