Camps

Science-based Day Camps!

Choose from a variety of in-person science-based day camp programs that engage and inspire children to learn about the exciting world of science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM). Utilizing fun, exciting, and highly interactive programming, the Air Zoo guides young minds through creative and inquiry-based experiences that instill a lifelong passion for learning. Explore Spring Break or Summer Day Camps or Policies now!

Financial Aid and Scholarship funds are available! If applying for Financial Aid/Scholarships, please submit your application prior to registering for camp. Click HERE to apply online. 

General Day Camp Information 

  • Campers must register at least  14  days prior to the camp start date. Late registrations may be accepted based on availability.  
  • Each registered camper will be provided with full-day access to all rides and permanent exhibits for each day of camp.  
  • Lunch from the Kitty Hawk Café may be purchased by full-day campers at drop off for $8/day (entree choice of turkey sandwich, hot dog, grilled cheese, or chicken tenders).  
  • The Air Zoo recommends that campers bring a water bottle and morning or afternoon snack, as applicable.
  • For camps ending at 4pm, After Camp is available for an additional $10 per child. Sign up and payment will be collected at drop off.
  • Please note: Starlab™ has a maximum capacity of 25 individuals.

Bug's Life

June 24-25 | 9am-noon

Great grasshoppers! It’s time to zoom into the world of bugs! Search high and low for the smallest insects and creepiest crawlies. Tromp into the woods and explore our ponds using scientific gear to see how our tiny neighbors live.

Get ready to get dirty! Explorers will collect natural materials outside and learn what makes plants and animals thrive and how to protect our environment. Games, nature crafts, and outdoor expeditions are planned for each day!

Set your eyes to the skies and get to know the mysteries of outer space. Explore the worlds of our solar system, discover Mars, investigate zero gravity, and launch a rocket that will make any astronaut proud!

Motion Madness

Begin your journey on Earth learning how planes fly and adventure to new worlds while designing a vehicle to explore other planets!

You may have heard of STEM, but what about STEAM? Discover how art can enhance science, technology, engineering, and math with a variety of creative projects. Create a unique tessellation with art and math, add in physics with pendulum painting, create art with the science of magnetism, and much more!

Tuesday  |  Creature Quest 
Are you curious about the creatures living around you? From camouflage techniques to special physical features like beaks and claws, learn about the diverse strategies animals use to thrive in their habitats. Be a budding biologist as you navigate the secrets of the forest, uncover the mysteries of the wetlands, and observe the intricate balance of nature that makes our planet a haven for diverse and fascinating creatures.

Wednesday  |  Cosmic Odyssey
Explore space in the Air Zoo’s portable STARLAB planetarium! Study the life, death, and rebirth of stars and find out how telescopes work. Explore the universe and create your own planetary necklace or keychain. Discover the mythology of constellations and make a 3D constellation of your choosing!

Eco Investigators

This week, grab your magnifying glass and get ready to uncover the mysteries and hidden wonders of our natural world. Examine the remains of creatures that lived hundreds of years ago and observe how plants and animals evolve and adapt over time. Look below the ground, beneath the brush, and in the water to discover tiny critters and ecosystems. Investigate the dangers and threats to our environment and identify ways we can protect the natural world.

Coding Expedition

July 22-26 | 1-4pm

Set off on your first big coding adventure! Navigate the exhibit floor following a code from your friends and learn the basics of communicating with computers. Explore concepts like the “land of loops” and “the fields of if/then” and use block coding to pilot one of the Air Zoo’s Sphero robots through increasingly exciting obstacles along your fantastical journey!

Note: Campers do not get to keep the Lego robot.

Fab Lab

Embark on a thrilling week exploring the realms of past, present, and future inventions. Engage in a series of STEM challenges as you harness your engineering skills to design and fabricate innovative solutions. Summer in Color

July 15-19  |  9am-noon

Have you ever wondered why the sky is blue, or why yellow is the color of happiness? Have you ever looked at pictures of planets and galaxies and wondered, is the color real? Answer these questions and more as you dive into the science of color with prisms, color mixing, and filters. Then, combine science with art and use colorful paints, chalk, and ink to express your creative side.

Powerful Planet

Explore the powerful processes that have shaped and formed planet Earth. Erupt volcanos, examine fossils and rock formations, observe erosion, and simulate earthquakes. Then, use what you’ve discovered to investigate and interpret processes on other planets, and even create your own unique planet.

Get Energized to explore electricity! Have you ever wondered how we can make electricity? Is it all the same? Learn about Static, AC, and DC power and how we can use it and circuits to help with everyday tools like lightbulbs.

Tuesday  |  Phenomenal Physics
Embark on a thrilling adventure as you explore the forces shaping our world. Uncover the mysteries of motion by constructing devices that throw, fall, accelerate, crash, and bounce. Work together to tackle real-world challenges and devise creative solutions. Fuel your scientific curiosity as you explore phenomenal physics all around us.

Wednesday  |  Rocketry
Did you ever want to be an astronaut? Come learn about what it takes to send someone to space! Learn about the forces that act on a rocket as it flies through the air, then build your own reusable Estes rocket and launch it high in the sky!

Thursday  |  Wild Art
Bold sunsets, colorful fall leaves, blooming flowers, brilliant night sky- nature is an artist! Take inspiration from the natural world to create art of your own. Explore the elements of art and where they appear in nature, collect natural materials, and let your artistic side run wild as you create a variety of nature inspired art. 

Friday  |   Block Blast
Dive into a world of colorful bricks and endless possibilities, unleash your creativity, design unique structures, and tackle exciting challenges. This LEGO-centric day is a haven for budding architects and problem solvers, offering a dynamic space to construct, innovate, and collaborate. Whether it's constructing a towering skyscraper or solving engineering puzzles, explore the endless possibilities when imagination meets innovation!

Challenge Robotics - Into Orbit

August 19-23 | 1-5pm 
$190/child 

Work with teammates to complete challenges from FIRST Lego League’s Into Orbit challenge. Into orbit will have campers sending their robot into the great beyond to take on challenges we may encounter when it comes to things in space, Campers will get to send their robots onto our challenge board filled with obstacles they will be able to solve to earn as many points as possible. Introductory experience with Lego Robotics or familiarity with block programing is needed before enrolling, as this camp will focus on more sophisticated programming and complex problem-solving. Note: Campers do not get to keep the Lego robot.

Design Lab

Go from original concept to prototype while you fabricate and print your own 3D designs. Learn how to create basic designs, prepare, and print them on our 3d printers. Learn what it takes to go from idea to final product! Explore how you can use the engineering design process to help you solve problems in this fantastic week of fabrication!

Ad Astra

July 8-12 | 9am-noon

Travelling to the stars requires specialized training, skill building, and a creative mind! Using STEAM skills campers will complete several engineering challenges that will push human exploration well beyond low Earth orbit. Test new equipment designs in a vacuum chamber, plan an intergalactic vacation with your teammates, and explore the latest in rocket technologies destined to take us Ad Astra...and beyond!

Challenge Robotics - Trash Trek

July 8-12 | 1-5pm 
$190/child

Monday  |  Digging Up Michigan
Have a “rocking” good time as you dive into the Earth’s history, learn to identify rocks and minerals, uncover ancient fossils, and explore the rich geological history of Michigan. Connect with experts in geology and dig deeper into the study of what makes up planet Earth!

Tuesday  |  Rocketry 
Gain a working knowledge of physical forces and Newton’s Laws of Motion through racing the force of gravity, creating real-life action/reaction scenarios, and building and launching your own re-usable Estes model rocket!

Wednesday  |  Tinkerer's Workshop
Tinkerers examine machines to see how they tick, experiment with materials to understand their capacities, and build things to the limits of their imaginations. Then, using the design process, campers will forge their own creations.

Thursday  |  Green STEAM
Do you have what it takes to be green? Learn about energy alternatives, mine for fossil fuels, harness the power of the sun’s solar rays, and test your knowledge in a game of trash vs. recycle jeopardy. Campers will also calculate their carbon footprint and challenge themselves to make a real-life change after camp ends.

Friday  |  Chemistry
What happens when you mix a little bit of this with a whole lot of that? Find out in this fun and potentially messy camp!  Behold the power of pennies, separate substances using science and explore things that glow.  Seek out the element of surprise and learn why chemists have all the solutions!

Work with the Air Zoo’s professional restoration crew and learn just what it takes to bring aircraft closer to exhibit condition. Learn skills such as riveting, wing building and covering, safety wiring, and cable swaging. Take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Flight Discovery Center while learning about WWII airplanes recovered from the bottom of Lake Michigan and the F-117 stealth aircraft!

Food Science

August 19-23 | 9am-noon 
$150/child 

Put on your oven mitts and your lab goggles and get ready to taste the science! Test the chemistry that makes bread rise and marshmallows brown. Meet the microorganisms that make yogurt good and the ones that make leftovers go bad. How do fats, sugars, and water interact if they are whipped and frozen? Come play with your food, learn how it works, and don’t forget to leave room for dessert!
