OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — After months of work, a major change is nearly complete to our signal here at KMTV. However, in order to get that signal, you need to rescan your TV starting Friday, 6/21/19.

"This whole process began when the F.C.C. wanted to open up more spectrum for broadband, we all have more devices and we want them to work faster," says Jim Timm, President and Executive Director of the Nebraska Broadcasters Association.

"The government has sold certain frequencies to cellular providers for cell phones and other communications and since they've done that, that has reduced the number of channels that broadcast televisions can transmit on," says Matt Highwood, Director of Engineering at KMTV.

Due to that change, crews installed a new antenna on our TV tower. Now you need to rescan your TV to pick up that new signal. In order to do that, you need to go to MENU, then select RESCAN or AUTOTUNE on your TV. "It's going to have to be your modern sets, anything in an HD or flat screen format, if anyone is still watching one of the old tube style TV's you're probably going to need a new television," says Timm.

Every TV is different, so if you run into any issues with your TV, contact the F.C.C. at 1-888-225-5322. If you get our signal from a cable or satellite provider, you won't have to do anything to continue receiving KMTV.
