High School
Carlson was a three-year letter-earner on the Track & Field team where he served as captain senior year. He was a two time OCIAA javelin champion and recived the Kingston Male Athlete of the Year Award in 2015. Carlson was also a three-year letter-earner in football.

David Carlson is the son of David and Barbara Carlson. He has one brother, Richard.
