It's #PlasticFreeJuly! A month dedicated to raising awareness of single-use plastics, in which we commit to not purchasing them. Only 9% of the plastic thats ever been created gets recycled. The rest of it is polluting our water, our soil, and destroying ecosystems. Also, plastic doesn't fully recycle, it "down-cycles" and pollutes in the process. Plastic doesn't break down, so once it's created it's with us for a very very long time. Plastic is a known endocrine disruptor. composed of hydro carbon chains made from oil. Deciding to go Plastic-Free or Zero-Waste can be a great personal practice. But if all you're doing in your environmental activism is buying lots of new plastic-free gear and taking instagram photos, You're missing the fact that many people do not have access to zero-waste, organic, plastic free goods. That needs to change. Also should out to all the angels who are distributing water at protests and marches. It's not about boycotting Poland Spring at the cost of not having water for protests, it's about simultaneously advocating for public water stations all over the city, for making sure water is always accessible and free. Those most effected by pollution and environmental crimes are black and brown people, the environmental movement began and will be lead by black and indigenous people. We need to support the fight for environmental justice actively. 💚It is not enough to be isolated in your own personal environmental justice journey.💚 This year we are joining @plasticfreejuly in this summertime call to action. Current events have caused disruptions in many of our lives and routines of late; so we made this video to demonstrate that zero-waste and plastic-free practices are still doable in this era, and that in fact they're more important than ever.
