Lenore Granich from the New York State Nurses Association says front line workers at Albany Med aren’t getting their safety equipment like N95 masks, replenished.

“Everybody is saying we have plenty of PPE, well where is it? ... We go into the job with the expectation that our hospital is going to provide us with the necessary equipment to do our job so we don’t walk out sick ourselves,” said Granich.

Which is also concerning for Granich, who is a stat nurse at Albany Med. She says hospital administration has told staff they can reuse their masks up to 20 times before throwing them out.

“Extended use decreases the integrity of these masks and causes gaps in them which therefore renders them useless,” said Granich.

Governor Andrew Cuomo was asked if he was aware Albany Med nurses have been reusing PPE in Saturday’s daily briefing.

“They should talk to their hospital administrator because whatever their hospital administrator said they need, we’ve done,” said Cuomo.

But nurses are pleading with the governor to not let their concerns fall on deaf ears.

“I understand that you’re getting information from hospital administration but you need to listen to the nurses and the health care workers on the front lines, and we’re telling you that we are reusing these items,” said Granich.
