SXSW 2020
Religious Diversity In the Tech Workplace
Description:
In recent years, the tech world has awoken to the importance of promoting diversity and inclusion through the use of affinity groups. Creating such groups can support employee engagement and customer-centric value propositions related to race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, military experience, generation, and ability. Faith-based diversity, however, is rarely considered, and it is often a taboo topic for HR departments. In an era when we are being encouraged to embrace diversity, is there an appropriate way to bring our spiritual identity to work, especially when faith is the first tenet of identity for many people? The conversation will be facilitated by a Muslim diversity leader in the tech field and a former optical engineer who's now a Catholic priest.
