Governor Lamont Statement on Today’s Confirmation of Judges

(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont released the following statement in response to the votes today by the General Assembly’s Judiciary Committee to approve the interim judicial appointments the governor made last month, including the Honorable Christine E. Keller to the Supreme Court and the Honorable Joan Alexander, Melanie Cradle, and Jose A. Suarez to the Appellate Court:

“I appreciate the swift action by the Judiciary Committee to review and approve these nominees, who represent some of the most skilled and accomplished jurists in Connecticut. I am confident that each of them will serve with the same integrity and competence they already have demonstrated throughout their distinguished judicial careers.”

The nominees will soon take their oaths of office and can begin serving in their newly confirmed positions immediately. Because the General Assembly is currently not in session, they will need to receive confirmation by the full General Assembly when the next regular session begins in January. Upon taking her oath, Judge Cradle will become the first African-American woman to serve on Connecticut’s Appellate Court.
