Jim Glogowski joined the Minnesota State football coaching staff on March 3, 2016 as the team's defensive coordinator.
During the 2016 season as Minnesota State's interim defensive coordinator, Glogowski saw a total of five Maverick defensive players receive All-NSIC honors, including Mat Andriano, Zach Dodge and Evan Perrizo who claimed All-NSIC First Team honors. Dodge would go on to receive Don Hansen All-American Third Team honors for his efforts during his sophomore season.
The 2017 season saw a total of seven members of the Maverick defense claim All-NSIC honors, including Brendan Chrystal, Zach Dodge, Larry Moore, Jerry Nash III and Evan Perrizo who claimed All-NSIC First Team honors. Perrizo would go on to claim D2CCA, AP and D2Football.com All-American honors.
In total, the Maverick defense held opposing offenses to just 15.4 points and 274.4 yards of offense a game in 2017. Opposing offenses averaged just 70.8 rushing yards against the Mavericks. MSU ranked second in the NSIC in total defense, rushing defense and third in sacks.
In 2018, Minnesota State held opposing offenses to 17.0 points and 300.0 yards of total offense a game as MSU advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament. MSU's opponents averaged 99.5 yards per game and managed to score just 96 points in the second half. The Mavericks finished second in the NSIC in scoring defense, second in total defense, second in rushing defense and third in passing defense.
A total of seven Mavericks claimed All-NSIC honors during the 2018 season, including Ty'Shonan Brooks, Zach Dodge, Alex Goettl, Jayme LaPlante and Michael Palme who claimed All-NSIC First Team honors. Bowen also claimed D2CCA All-American Second Team honors.
Coach Gloglowski's fourth season with the Mavericks would see seven Mavericks claim All-NSIC honors, including Jack Curtis and Zach Robertson who claimed All-NSIC First Team accoaldes. Jack Leius was named the NSIC Defensive Newcomer of the Year, while Glogowski was named the NSIC Assistant Coach of the Year.
The Maverick defense finished the 2019 season ranked in the top-10 of Division II in several team categories including total defense (7th/268.1), rushing defense (3rd/69.1), scoring defense (6th/15.2) and fourth down conversion defense (10th/28.6%).
During the 2021 season, the Maverick defense ranked third in the NSIC in points allowed (22.8) and yards allowed (358.9) per game. The Maverick defense would see three players in Ty'Shonan Brooks, Nic Dahlke and Jack Leuis receive All-NSIC honors, with Brooks going to to receiving AFCA All-American Second Team honors.
Before joining Minnesota State, Glogowski served as the head coach of the Simpson College Storm football team for eight seasons. Since 2012, he also assumed the role as the team’s defensive coordinator.
During his eight seasons at Simpson, Glogowski led the Storm to 37 wins, including a pair of second-place finishes in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The 2013 season saw Simpson finish with a 7-3 record with quarterback Taylor Nelson, who was named the IIAC’s Most Valuable Offensive Player.
Prior to his time at Simpson, Glogowski spent four seasons at the University of South Dakota, including two seasons where he served as the team’s defensive coordinator. In 2006, USD boasted the fifth-best run defense in NCAA Division II.
Glogowski also served as Allegheny College’s linebacker coach and recruiting coordinator from 1998-99 & defensive coordinator from 2001-03, and as Clarion University’s linebackers coach and Co-special teams coordinator in 2000. He also spent one season at Augustana (S.D.) as a graduate assistant coach in 1997.
As a player, Glogowski was a four-year starter at strong safety and linebacker for South Dakota. He received Don Hansen All-American honors in 1995 after registering 91 tackles, including 21 for a loss and 5.5 sacks. He also garnered All-North Central Conference honors in 1995 and was named the NCC’s Most Valuable Defensive Back. He was inducted into the Coyote Sports Hall of Fame in 2013.
Jim and his wife Kate have four children Jacob, Madeline, Benjamin and Samantha.
