What is an appeal?
An Appeal is a request to a higher court to review the decision of a trial court when the trial court makes a decision a person does not agree with.
Who can appeal?
A person who had a case in the trial court that receives a trial court decision they are not happy with.
Where do I appeal?
Most appeals in Michigan begin at the Michigan Court of Appeals.
When is it time to appeal?
Typically an appeal is due within 21 days of the decision, but the deadline can vary depending on the case. You should talk to an appellate attorney immediately to find out what your deadline is.
Why would I appeal?
If the trial court decision impacts you or your family in a way that you cannot live with, you can file an appeal to try to obtain a decision you can live with.
