SCALE Appeals the MHA EIS
Starting on November 27, 2017, twenty-six (now 27!) Seattle neighborhood groups, the Seattle Coalition for Affordability, Livability & Equity (SCALE), led an appeal to the inadequacies of the Environmental Impact Statement to the city-wide implementation of the Mandatory Housing Affordability (MHA) policy.
Seattle Fair Growth is one of those groups declaring more needs to be done for providing affordable living within all parts of Seattle. The appeal has identified that the Environmental Impact Statement includes flawed methodology, significant undisclosed adverse impacts, a lack of reasonable alternatives, and a poor application of accepted sound land use principles.
The proposed ordinance to increase multifamily density and 'upzone' the remaining 27 Urban Villages will result in displacement of vulnerable communities - segregating low-income families to lower land cost areas of the city.
