Meet Your Council co-VPs of Advocacy
Since Legislative Assembly just ended, it seems like a great time to introduce our Council co-VPs of Advocacy. Nancy and Charla are both amazing advocates with a wealth of experience and they want to support you! If you have questions or are interested in learning more about how you or your PTA can speak up for change at your school or how to use our WSPTA legislative platform to advocate at a local or district level, reach out to them!

Nancy Chamberlain
Nancy Chamberlain
Nancy was a new PTA member when her PTA President gave an update on how WSPTA was advocating for simple majority for school levies, which would put millions more dollars into public schools.  “I realized then that PTA has a powerful role speaking for all kids,” she says. She has over 20 years’ experience volunteering and has served in a variety of leadership roles with Northshore PTAs. She also currently serves on WSPTA's Board as Advocacy Director.

Presidents & Principals Luncheon - 11/1
Northshore Council's annual Presidents & Principals Luncheon is Thursday, November 1st from 11:30am-1pm at Evergreen Church (Bothell). Invitations were emailed to presidents on 10/12/2018. Presidents should personally invite their school principal to attend (if the principal is unable, then ask the assistant principal). Be sure to RSVP-- if the president is unable to attend, please plan to send another delegate from your PTA/PTSA (we wouldn't want your principal to have to sit alone!). Contact Stacey Meyer if you have questions.
Council General Membership Meeting - 11/5
NEW LOCATION!!!! The next Northshore Council General Membership Meeting will be on Monday, November 5, 2018. Note that the meeting place has changed! We will be meeting at Woodinville Fire Station 31 (17718 Woodinville Snohomish Rd, Woodinville, WA 98072). The meeting will begin at 7pm. Come a little early to meet with Council and local PTA leaders and enjoy a snack! Questions? Contact Carrie McKenzie.
PTA Praise
One topic allNorth Creek High School banner hanging at the school entrance. PTA’s discuss is how to communicate with families.  We often talk about over communicating and using multiple methods. North Creek High School PTSA recently posted on Facebook, sharing a photo of the huge colorful banner outside their school to let families know about their meeting. So their eye-catching banner (with great branding!) not only offered a friendly meeting reminder to those coming into the school, but also served as a great online reminder, too! Great work NCHS PTSA!
Council Kudos!
  • GRATITUDE to Marcilla Proudfit, VP West, for representing Council at the October 8th School Board Meeting, speaking to dyslexia awareness as well as recent and upcoming Council events.
  • BIG HOORAYS to ALL of our awesome Northshore PTA/PTSA delegates who attended Legislative Assembly, including Council delegates Carrie McKenzie, Robin McKenzie and Marcilla Proudfit. We are so grateful for your work on updates and additions to our legislative platform and for advocating for all children!

Reflections Theme Search

Natioinal PTA is looking for a great theme for Reflections 2020-2021! Encourage students at your school to enter their ideas-- the deadline is November 1, 2018. For more information (including Spanish translations), visit the Reflections page on WSPTA's website and click on "Theme Search."

This is a VERY simple process to enter - you can email the entries! A great way to promote your Reflections program is to run a quick school-wide promo of the theme search this month - ANY student can participate!

Resolution Submissions Due - 11/15

It doesn't just happen at Legislative Assembly! Resolution proposals submitted in November (due by 11/15!) are considered for adoption or amendment at Convention in the spring. Resolutions guide our advocacy work from the local to the state level. They may be amended and updated, or retired, are long-term and usually broader in scope than legislative issues. Any PTA member is encouraged to submit a resolution that addresses concerns that affect children on a state-wide level. Learn more...
