New Navigation Committee
It is great to welcome a new board of members to our Navigation Committee. The new committee is made up of Andrew Hamilton, Simon Sparrow, Nicky Talbot, Paul Thomas, Linda Aspland, Mike Barnes, John Ash, and Alan Thomson.
In total, 28 applications were received and these were shortlisted to 15 candidates by a selection panel. The panel was made up of Christine Lee the Panel Chair (one of the Authority’s two independent persons), Richard Card the President of Norfolk and Suffolk Boating Association, Lesley Robinson the Chief Executive of British Marine Federation and Haydn Thirtle, Chairman of the Broads Authority.
Candidates were assessed and scored on the following;
- Knowledge of the Broads and its special qualities as a protected landscape
- Knowledge of the navigation area and current relevant issues
- Knowledge of the varied recreational uses of the Broads
- Knowledge of the boating industry
- Ability to think strategically
- Understanding of appropriate governance and organisational arrangements
- Ability to think independently and to demonstrate the Broads Authority's core values
Nine organisations acted as consultees and the selection panel included external partners to ensure the process was thorough and fair.
The appointment of co-opted members of the Navigation Committee happens every four years and additionally at times when casual vacancies need to be filled. The appointments are for four years with a maximum aggregated term of eight years. You can visit our website for more information on the Broads Authority’s Navigation Committee.
The Navigation Committee is a vital element of Broads Authority governance and decision making and I very much look forward to working with them over the next four years.
