LANSING — Tonight, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer gave her first State of the State address, outlining her vision for the state and calling for bipartisan collaboration to address the issues that matter most to Michigan’s working families. In response, state Rep. Karen Whitsett (D-Detroit) issued the following statement:

“The plan laid out by Gov. Whitmer was not only hopeful but realistic. I was glad to hear how the governor plans to address the skilled trades gap in our economy as well as many of the obstacles preventing our hardworking men and women from finding the good jobs with strong paychecks they deserve. I am looking forward to partnering with Gov. Whitmer to address this and many other issues affecting Michigan’s working families.”

Rep. Whitsett was joined by her husband, Jason Whitsett.
