• Indiana head coach Tom Allen promoted Kasey Teegardin to special teams coordinator on Jan. 19, 2020. He also oversees the outside linebackers.
 
• Kick return specialist Jaylin Lucas earned All-America accolades from six outlets in 2022, including four first-team honors. He became the first Hoosier and the first conference true freshman to be named the Big Ten Rodgers-Dwight Return Specialist of the Year.
 
• Lucas ranks No. 2 on both the IU single-season and career kickoff return touchdowns lists with two. He was the lone returner in the country with two scores, his 591 yards led the Big Ten, and his 28.1 yards per return ranked No. 4 nationally.
 
• James Evans closed out 2022 with a 44.3 average per punt, which ranks second in school history.
 
• Tutored the husky and the bull positions in 2020, and the safeties in 2018 and 2019.
 
• The Hoosiers finished 2021 tied for first in the country with four blocked punts.
 
• Indiana scored on an 81-yard punt return and a blocked punt return in the Idaho win.
 
• IU last scored twice on special teams at Kentucky on Sept. 20, 1969 (2 punt returns) and last scored on a block at Michigan on Sept. 27, 2003.
 
• Kicker Charles Campbell earned 2020 second-team All-Big Ten honors, while punter Haydon Whitehead and return specialist Reese Taylor carded honorable-mention recognition.
 
• Campbell led the conference in field goal percentage after he made 10-of-11 (90.9 percent) and all 25 of his extra-point attempts.
 
• A Ray Guy Award semifinalist, Whitehead averaged 43.4 yards, which ranks fourth on the Hoosiers single-season list.
 
• Teegardin’s special teams unit shared fifth in ESPN’s special teams efficiency rankings.
 
• Juwan Burgess shared the team lead with two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries (T-4th in the Big Ten, T-27th nationally) in 2019.
 
• Jonathan Crawford signed a free-agent deal with the Tennessee Titans, participated at the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine, and earned 2018 honorable-mention All-Big Ten recognition.
 
• Crawford topped the team in tackles (66) and solos (47). He finished third in the league (24th nationally) with two fumble recoveries to go along with a pick-6 and one forced fumble, one sack, 3.5 stops for loss, and three pass breakups.
 
• Bryant Fitzgerald paced the team with three interceptions (T-8th in the Big Ten), two forced fumbles (T-7th in the Big Ten), and six takeaways.
 
• Fitzgerald shared first in the B1G among freshmen in INTs (T-7th nationally) and forced fumbles (T-4th nationally).
 
• A Hoosiers defensive graduate assistant (2014-16) for three years and director of on-campus recruiting for one campaign (2017), Allen promoted Teegardin for the first time on March 2, 2018.
 
• Spent 2012 and 2013 as special teams coordinator and linebackers coach at Valparaiso University.
 
• Served as Valpo’s NFL and academic liaison as well as the program’s community outreach coordinator.
 
• The NFL liaison at three schools, Teegardin has mentored four players who have reached the professional ranks.
 
• Coached the secondary at Northwood University in 2011 and was the youngest defensive coordinator in the NCAA (hired at 24) at the University of Charleston in 2010.
 
• Joined the UC staff in 2007 as a part-time assistant in which he helped with the defensive line, worked as linebackers coach in 2008, and as secondary coach in 2009.
 
• The 2009 team went 9-2 and ranked 19th in the country and in 2010, Teegardin’s defense finished 19th nationally in rush defense.
 
• Played linebacker at Charleston and was selected a captain his senior season.
 
• During his first two seasons at UC, Teegardin also was an outfielder and catcher on the baseball team.
 
• A 2007 Charleston graduate with a degree in sport management, Teegardin earned his master’s degree in business administration in 2008.
 
• Kasey and his wife, Monica, have one son, Kayden (2).
