Thank you, @georgeshk. I will do my best to contribute. Have you by chance seen this video by Max Stossel, a member of the CHT team? I believe he helped establish the forum. |
I bring up the video because it is very good in some ways and not good in other ways. I therefore think it might be helpful in establishing what qualities or characteristics are desirable and what aren't. |
Just looked at the video you shared. I think it is great you did share this, as it highlights a very key point in the Mankind 2.0 campaign.
The video you shared very clearly pushes an agenda (Mankind 2.0 will not do so explicitly and will remain neutral, instead stressing out something of importance, and leaving ot to the audience to think). This video is, as I define it, a "lecture" or an argumentation (albeit an entertaining one).
There is a central character/narrator who is the authoritative figure who wants to convince us (Mankind 2.0 will only feature "passive" characters who are you, me, or someone else). I do not intimately connect or sympathize with him, I listen and assess whether I agree with him or not on so many points he is discussing. On the other hand, our proposed campaign wants the viewers to RELATE, i.e. they could themselves be the characters of our stories.
Just to clarify, I am not saying this video is bad, or even less so that our campaign's premise is so much better. It is educated, informative, smart, and well designed.
But I tend to think there are several ways to communicate, raise awareness, inspire and convince.
Our vision here is to shock and inspire, which is the first step, without which most of us will refrain from challenging our behaviors. Once we have this critical mindset, we are more open to seeking further education and enlightenment.
**Edit** "Mankind 2.0" is actually the name of the campaign theme. The name of the campaign itself has now changed to "Reality Shock"

I agree with and support everything you say. Thank you, @georgeshk :-) |

Just created a pull request so that we can update the README file and close this issue. |
I'll merge the PR and create a separate Resources document with the video @patmatsu referenced in #7 (comment) and then close this issue. |

Retrospective
Description
Argumentation, reasoning and "lectures" only go so far, hence the pressing need to first trigger an "emotional" response.
The campaign will feature short videos (2-3 minutes each) that aim to be dramatic and impactful through the combined use of words, cinematography and music.
It does not aim to explicitly pursue a specific agenda, push on the audience a clear message, or impose a "lecture". Rather, it aims to provoke introspection by telling provocative stories, the conclusions of which are left to the audience.
Why is it important to adopt a "neutral" approach based on providing factual observations in a spectacular and dramatic form? Because this campaign is based on the principle that we will not change our behaviors on the mere basis of facts and reason if we have no motivation to challenge our thinking in the first place and take a step back from our habits. The dramatic videos aim to shock and leave a strong impression that ideally will lead to wondering where each of us stands in all this.
