ELECTIVE COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Horticulture:
Class description: Students will learn fundamental skills relating to planting, plant nutrition, and greenhouse and nursery production. This class teaches the student how to grow and harvest plants.
Class objective: After completion of this course, students should obtain essential knowledge and skills to understand horticulture-The art and practice of garden cultivation and management.
Class benefits: Be part of creating better air. Boost your mental well-being. You will feel a sense of accomplishment. Stress relief. Be part of feeding the community. Be part of something positive!
Can lead to careers in Farming, production, marketing, food science, research, education, landscape design and construction, management, public gardens, inspection, or open your own business.

Robotics:
Design and Modeling: introduces students to and use of the engineering design process to solve problems and create design solutions. Students will use 3D modeling software to create virtual images of their designs.
Automation and Robotics: course is design to integrate hands-on activities and computer programming. Students will use VEX products to construct automation systems(robots).
Advance Robotics (prerequisite): Students successfully pass Design and Modeling and Automation Robotics. Students will be required to participate in robotics competitions (First Lego League and VEX EDR ).

BEGINNING BAND (BAND MS)
No prerequisite required (Not Repeatable)
This is an introductory level course for students to learn how to play a new band instrument. This course develops the physical skills necessary to play beginning level music accurately and with good tone quality and develops skills in reading music notation.
Instruments available are as follows:
Beginning Band Instruments: Flute, Clarinet, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone, Tuba, and Percussion.

ADVANCED BAND (ADV BAND)  
PREREQUISITE: BEGINNING BAND (2x Repeatable)
The courses develops the ability to perform on an instrument with considerable skill, accuracy and overall musicality. This course also provides opportunities for increasing skill in band ensemble playing and provides acquaintance with the standard repertoire of band that is technically and qualitatively advanced.

BEGINNING STRINGS (STRINGS MS)
NO PRE-REQUISITE REQUIRED (Not Repeatable)
This is an introductory level course for students to learn how to play a new string instrument. This course develops the physical skills necessary to play beginning level music accurately and with good tone quality and develops skills in reading music notation.
Instruments available are as follows:

Beginning Strings Instruments: Violin, Viola, Cello and String Bass
Note: We do not teach guitar or electric bass.

ADVANCED ORCHESTRA (ADV ORCH)
PREREQUISITE:BEGINNING STRINGS (2x Repeatable)
The courses develops the ability to perform on an instrument with considerable skill, accuracy and overall musicality. This course also provides opportunities for increasing skill in orchestra ensemble playing and provides acquaintance with the standard repertoire of orchestra that is technically and qualitatively advanced.

Spanish Language and Culture - Introduction to Latin American Literature, Grammatical Structure and usage, and geographical aspects of Latin American Culture.
6th Grade Class
Prerequisite - Being fully bilingual and fully emerged in Dual Language Program since Elementary School.

Spanish Speakers 1 - It's a continuation of Spanish Language and Culture with an intense emphasis of Grammatical Structures and Literature.
7th Grade Class
Prerequisite - Spanish Language and Culture

Spanish Speakers 2 - A continuation of Spanish Speakers 1 with an Intense emphasis of Writing Skills, Oral Fluency, Latin American Literature, and Grammar Usage.
8th Grade Class
Prerequisite - Spanish Speakers 1

Spanish 1 - Non- Native class - It's an introduction to Spanish with the emphasis of learning to communicate in the target language.
Prerequisite - None

General Art: This course is an introduction to the visual arts. It covers basic historical foundations of art, aesthetics, Elements of Art and Principles of Design.

Advanced Art: In this course students expand their personal growth in the visual arts through the identification of specialized areas of interest.  It covers historical foundations of art, aesthetics, Elements of Art and Principles of Design in more depth.
Prerequisite: Passing General Art or Teacher Approval (Skills and Knowledge Test)
