Related to (and perhaps combinable with) the proposals (above) on
burnout and specialized collections/invisible labor:  Are the issues
facing archivists in non-traditional settings so different that they risk
creating a second class of archivists?  To what extent do archivists who
labor in non-traditional settings manage highly specialized collections, with
few or constantly endangered resources, and under security restrictions which
constrain access, advocacy, ability develop new programs, and ability to adopt
technical standards and advancements?

Systems for Archives and Libraries: A Square Peg in a Round Hole? No single system provides the functionality needed to manage and provide access to the diverse collections of archives, libraries, and museums. In many cases, different types of materials may require different types of systems or platforms, but often archives and special collections must follow the systems decisions of libraries. One example is the use of Alma/Primo for the integration of searches of archival collections and institutional repository items. What ways can library systems support needs and workflows specific to archival, special collections, and cultural heritage materials? What works well and what doesn’t? What options are there for modifications, workarounds, or systems integration? Where do archivists fall in the decision-making process of the acquisition of systems and software?Melinda Islerislerm@ferris.eduMolly McGuiremmcguire@oakland.edu

Other duties as assigned: Have you ever been stretched to the limit of your technical knowledge for a crucial project for your institution or the profession? Archivists will share tales of challenge and growth, their processes, and their lessons learned. [Lydia: my planning topic will be a crash course in Trello integrations (using coding and add-ons) to overhaul the workflows of the Society of American Archivists' mentoring program.]Lydia Tangltang5@msu.edu
