Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location.At William & Mary, community members can participate in this longstading game! You can find geocahces that have been hidden by others or hide some of your own. Before you do anything, however, please read the rules of etiquete and how-to guide below!

Geocahing Rules

- If you find a geocache, put it back exaclty where you found it. Don't try to hide it or move it.

- If the geocache has something in it for you to take, be sure to leave something in return.

- If the geocache has a finders list in it, leave your name!

- Don't reveal the location of geocaches, online or anywhere else.

How to Geocache

1. Go to one of the following pages.

2. Find a geocache you want to find.

3. Enter the coordinates into any GPS enabled device.

4. Travel to that location. Be safe while traveling - do not use a phone while driving and be sure to watch traffic while on foot. Also be sure not to go to any location where you feel unsafe. Tell friends/family where you are going. Do not enter private property without approval from the owner.

5. Search around the GPS location when you find it. Geocaching can be tricky - some hiders will hide them very well! They can be taped under things or can look like normal objects.

6. After finding the cache, write your name on a finders list, take and replace any trinkets, and replace the cache exactly where you found it.

How to Hide Geocaches

1. Obtain a container for your geocache.

2. Determine where you want your geocache to be hidden and go there. Do not damage or move private or public property to hide a geocache! Do not dig more than one inch into any ground!

3. Write down the GPS coordinates for where you are. Be sure to be as exact as possible.

4. Create a seperate page on this excel sheet. At the top, list all of the things the finder might need (pencil, trinket, clipboard, trowel, etc.). Then, list all of the locations of the geocaches you have hidden.

5. *Optional* Create a space on the page for people to say they found it - but be sure to tell them not tell where they found it.
