Texas Passes Save Chick-fil-A Religious Freedom Law

The Save Chick-fil-A Religious Freedom Law, SB 1978, passed the Texas Legislature with bipartisan support and was signed into law by Gov. Greg Abbott on June 10, 2019. This new law ensures state and local governments do not punish Texans because of their membership or association with a religious organization, or because of their donation to a religious organization. San Antonio Bans Chick-fil-A

In March of 2019, the San Antonio City Council voted to ban a Chick-fil-A store from opening in the San Antonio Airport. The reason for the ban: the councilmembers accused Chick-fil-A of “discrimination” because the company financially supported Christian ministries like Salvation Army and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and because its founder supports marriage between one man and one woman. The Federal Aviation Administration and the Texas Attorney General‘s Office have both launched subsequent investigations in the city’s discriminatory decision. To date, the City of San Antonio has stood by its decision to discriminate against Chick-fil-A because of Chick-fil-A’s support of Christian ministries.
