Shimmy Bang Sparkle is by Nicola Rendell. I’ve been such a fan of Nicola’s since I first came across her books. But just when I thought she couldn’t amaze me any more, when she couldn’t make me fall in love any deeper, she did!

Nick Norton is forty years old, covered in tattoos, rides a Ducati motorcycle, and just got out of prison. You see, Nick is or rather “was” a thief, who specialized in his knack for picking locks and opening safes. It wasn’t necessarily a profession he chose, he just sort of was pushed into it once his abilities were discovered. But, he got caught and now he’s out. It’s the life of the straight and narrow for him now. He has no interest in going back to prison. It was just by happenstance, though, that he was in the right place at the right time that day, and he saw her. The most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Of all places, she was in a jewelry store trying on a diamond ring. He had to get closer. He had to talk to her. Then he saw her do it, and she was no amateur, she stole the ring, right out from under the nose of the sales lady.

Nick should run, not walk, away from this woman. She was everything he needed to stay away from. But he couldn’t. He had to know more about her, he needed to know more about her.

“With her in my arms, I felt hope. And I wanted to protect that.”

jewel thief

Stella Peretti was a jewel thief along with her two best friends. They called themselves the Shimmy Shimmy Bangs. But they didn’t steal for their own gain. They were like lady Robin Hoods. Right now the person that needed her help was her elderly neighbor, Mr. Bozeman. She could not let the hunky man that just walked in distract her. Really, though, he was a walking, talking distraction. So when he showed back up later that day, she couldn’t say no when he asked her out to dinner. And so they began, Stella and Nick. Their chemistry was off the charts. They awoke something in each other that perhaps both had given up on.

“She made things happen inside me I hadn’t felt in years. Maybe ever. Things I didn’t know I ever deserved to feel at all. Gratitude. Peace. Possibility. Hope. Love. Once-in-a-lifetime love.”

Stella and her friends had been planning on something big for awhile now. But both of her friends suffered an accident and Stella was on her own. Could she accept Nick’s offer to help and put his future in danger? Or should she take his help? It’s her last job and the biggest thing she has ever attempted. Then the future would be theirs.

“With a single look, he could make the world fall away.”

giant diamond

I think this sets the stage for you. These two were good people, loyal to the ones they loved, they just chose a different sort of career than most people. But they wanted to go straight. This was their very last job. It was a beautiful thing watching things develop between them. It might seem like it was fast but what they had was real and true. They were perfect for each other. Nicola has found the perfect balance in this book between sweet romance, smoking hot sexy times, and suspense. I could not put this book down. This is probably a strange thing to say but Stella made me want to be a better person. I’m sure you are thinking, “What!” with her being a jewel thief and all. But you will understand when you get to know her. She’s just that wonderful.

I do want to take a minute, though, to say that the character that REALLY stole the show in this book was the dachshund Priscilla. This dog was adorable and made me want to run right out to the nearest shelter and adopt one. I can’t wait for you to meet her.

adorable dachshunds

All I can say in closing is if you are a romance lover, you just have to read this book. My heart is all gooey just writing this. I absolutely fell in love with Stella and Nick and I hope you will too.

“She was everything I’d never known I needed, and everything I could never be without.”

In the past, this author's books have been a little hit or miss for me. I find she tends to get a bit longwinded at times and because of that, her books can drag along in places. That said, the whole "jewel thief" premise of this one intrigued me enough that I decided to give her another chance. Luckily, this one didn't suffer from too much needless rambling. Yes it did start to drag a bit near the end, and I think the author could have cut a few pages here and there to move the story along at a slightly better pace, but overall it was certainly one of the better books I have read by Miz Rendell.

description

So deets...this was simply a lovely and humorous read. There was zero drama. Zero angst. It had an interesting plot. It had some great secondary characters. Both the main characters were very likable. It had some spice (the first sex scene was Oh là là hot!). A cute dog. And a sweet ending.

description

My only complaint is the romance was maybe a bit...lackluster? For lack of a better word. Basically, the hero sees the heroine; they flirt, he follows her home and instant relationship. No issues. No fights. Nothing. There were certainly times when the plot lent itself perfectly for there to be a bit of angst injected. Both relationship wise and background wise. But nothing really ever came about. I felt that the author missed a bit of an opportunity in that regard. Still, all in all, this was an enjoyable read and will be perfect for those that like their reads sweet and drama free.

Nick was fresh out of prison and looking forward to starting over and living his life well. Then he catches a glimpse of heaven through the window of a jewelry store. He can’t look away. And thoughts of moving forward without her are no longer possible. He walks into that store and takes in the full picture that is Stella. She’s not only physically gorgeous, but she had a personality to match. Everything about her sang to him. Every part of her called to him. And when he sees her pull off a sleight of hand befitting a pro, he knows that he’s not letting her go. Who makes the perfect match for a jewel thief? Another jewel thief.

I’ve read quite a few books by Nicola Rendell, but this was by far my favorite of the bunch. It was fresh, unique, and increasingly entertaining as the story progressed. I loved the plot, its characters, and the way this author played on my emotions. The dynamic between Nick and Stella was not only incredibly hot, it was sweet, fun, and found a way to lift my spirits. I had an absolute blast reading about these two and I’m pretty sad to see them go. However, with a fantastic supporting cast of characters, such as Ruth and Roxie, I’m holding out hope that I’ll see them again.

Shimmy Bang Sparkle was my first Nicola Rendell read, and it absolutely will not be my last. It was extremely well written, and while at first glance you may assume it’s just another contemporary romance with a predictable trope, it is not that. It’s very original from the plot, to the banter, to the main characters and the side ones. I think people who enjoy movies like Ocean’s 11/12/13/8 and wish that there was a little bit more heat and romance to the plot will enjoy Shimmy Bang Sparkle. I think Rendell did a good job making both the love story and the heist plot interesting. I was invested in Nick and Stella, and I was on the edge of my seat to see how things would turn out for the story as a whole.

All in all a refreshingly unique contemporary romance read!

4 STARS!
There was something so unexpectedly sweet and wonderful about all this.
That quote sums up Shimmy Bang Sparkle so well!

Plus, Nicola Rendell makes me laugh and knows how to write some HOT sexy times . . . such a great combination. :D

Nick's an ex-con who's trying to get his life together.
Christ, I was forty years old, I was covered in tattoos, and I drove a goddamned Ducati. I wasn't gonna let some woman's wink flatten me down like a cannonball. Not even hers. Not yet.
YUM!

And Stella is just an ordinary girl with an extraordinary profession.
Stealing jewels was how I punched above my weight and fought back against a world that could be cruel, unkind, and unfair.
These two were pretty fabulous together; combustible, yes . . .
"This is how it's gonna be," he said, zipping up his too-big motorcycle jacket on me and sliding his hands into my back pockets to pull my hips into his body. "I'm gonna drive you back to my place. I'm gonna take you like you deserve to be taken. Every second from now until you fall asleep in my arms is going to be me, doing my thing to you, and making your eyes roll back in your head again and again."
. . . but I also loved how the author built up their relationship into something that was deep and sweet and beautiful.
With her in my arms, I felt hope. And I wanted to protect that. No matter what.
The reason I can't give it five stars is that the heist itself was pretty silly and not at all realistic. But hey, that's not why we read these kinds of books anyway, right?

If you're looking for some hot fun that will have you laughing out loud, look no further!

Enjoyed it. A fun read if you are ok with long monologues, and long descriptions of irrelevant things, but funny nonetheless. So yes, I skimmed a bit. The great thing about this book is its MCs, specially the hero. his thoughts about the heroine were swoon worthy, she was the sun for him. It's sad that authors don't write heroes like him anymore, his love and the things he did for his woman are just heroic. I rarely say it, but I want him and that says something considering he is a thief.

Nicola Rendell is a fairly new-to-me author, and with Shimmy Bang Sparkle, I have become an immediate fan. Fun and flirty, this steamy romance had me chuckling and swooning page after page. It's a must-read for romantic comedy lovers. Although insta-romances are not my usual cup of tea, this book was an exception with its intriguing story-line and a cast of lovable yet loony characters. A simply amusing, fast-paced, feel-good read from beginning to end.

Nick and Stella, two professional jewelry thieves, were the cutest couple ever. A perfect match from when they first met and sparks immediately ignited. Stella's character was a riot. Quirky with just the right amount of crazy and sass, her banter with Nick and BFFs was hysterical. And Nick was the sexiest alpha-beast. All bearded and tatted, he was a badass with an incredibly gentle and loving side that stole my heart. Together, their hi jinks and plotting the epic heist had me a bit on edge, holding my breath in anticipation, waiting to see how this couple could make it through to a 'happily ever after'. It certainly was a bumpy ride, and I loved it.

Shimmy Bang Sparkle was a delightful lighthearted read that was low on drama yet jam-packed with passion. There were some angsty moments, but overall a sweet love-at-first-sight type of romance that I thoroughly enjoyed. Looking forward to savoring more romances from Rendell.

Wow! First of all, I’m sorry it took me almost a week to read this amazing story. I was busy trying to upload the reviews I’ve written on GR to my blog.
Anyways, let me tell you about Shimmy Bang Sparkle. Here’s what you need to know:
Hero: ex-jewel thief, just out of prison, set to live a normal, easy life, until she spots Her

“Christ, I was forty years old, I was covered in tattoos, and I drove a goddamned Ducati. I wasn't gonna let some woman's wink flatten me down like a cannonball. Not even hers. Not yet.”

What was she doing? Oh, nothing much, just stealing a diamond from a jewelry store. So, you see, maybe he did want to be a model citizen, but the attraction to Stella was way bigger than anything else. Yes, i’m talking about soulmates, meeting exactly when they’re supposed to.

Stella was the leader of a notorious thieves’ gang. Along with her two best friends, they were planning the heist of the century, but when the other girls are involved in a car accident, Stella asks Nick for help.

Now, you really, really, really have to read this book, because:
- it full of suspense
- there’s a healthy dose of romance and sexiness to it

"This is how it's gonna be," he said, zipping up his too-big motorcycle jacket on me and sliding his hands into my back pockets to pull my hips into his body. "I'm gonna drive you back to my place. I'm gonna take you like you deserve to be taken. Every second from now until you fall asleep in my arms is going to be me, doing my thing to you, and making your eyes roll back in your head again and again."

- you won’t be able to put it down, because there’s always something happening.
- you’ll want to see how they plan on stealing that diamond and what happens after
- there’s also a super cute dog (or actually two), that will make you smile big.

That being said, I need to thank my friend Melanie A. for reading and reviewing this book before me and so it got on my radar too. I was sure I was going to love it. I mean, how could anyone hate it? ☺️

It would be an absolute honor to have you as my guest on my blog too. Stop by anytime you want :)

First things first, because I feel the need to get this off my chest. I didn’t like the book title! Shimmy Bang Sparkle! What the hell is that all about? But I do love Nicola Rendell’s writing style so it was a given I would read it and now, I’ve read it, I agree it could not have had a better title. It was like a full on green eggs and ham turnaround moment.

Shimmy Bang Sparkle it is. And Shimmy Bang Sparkle is perfect.

From page one, I was sold. Stella Peretti is a goddess. She’s a modern day Robin Hood with a modern day band of merry men - well she has Roxie and Ruth and the gorgeous show stealer Priscilla. I adored Priscilla.

Nicola writes with humour, making the characters of Nick and Stella pop out of the pages they are the Sparkle. A woman trying to escape from the police by crawling out of a bathroom window and getting stuck half in half out. Priceless. The plot, so often lacking in contemporary romance, is stellar. Show stoppingly brilliant and full of Bang. The sexy scenes fit the story but are not the main event.

If you want a book with a great story that will have you smiling from beginning to end, this book is for you.

A sexy witty ride from start to finish.

Shimmy Bang Sparkle by Nicola Rendell was a steamy, refreshing, and just downright funny story that I highly recommend! One minute I was giggling and fanning myself, and the next, biting my nails. I didn't care that it was insta-love, Nick and Stella were so fun and witty that it was hard not to get swept away in their relationship with one another. They gave me the best warm fuzzy feelings.

I couldn't keep the smile off my face as I followed in Nick and Stella's journey. Their story never stopped being sexy, exciting, fun and completely irresistible—and don't make me start talking about Priscilla, she stole the show and my heart!

I absolutely fell in love with these two! Here's hoping you love them too. Shimmy Bang Sparkle is a total must read for romance lovers!

I am a big fan of this author's writing and this book was no different. I really loved the pace of the story and the jewel thief angle was a new storyline for me. Plenty of action, seriously hot chemistry and the right amount of feels. Nick and Stella were fantastic and I definitely recommend this story if you're looking for a hot, witty and original read.

This book owned me. Loved it.

Witty, sexy and romantic this worked as a romance, but it was also a gripping thriller. I was reading this through my fingers at times, so nervous, willing things to go their way.

They're both jewel thieves, but the ethics are neatly dealt with as there's something of a Robin Hood motivation for their misdeeds which of course makes grand theft perfectly fine. Completely fine. Really. It's not the dark, grisly underbelly of hard crime though this book, but more about overcoming obstacles, working together and excelling in a craft. Yep, so that craft is theft, but still a skill. Who knew?

It was gripping, totally mesmerising to read, the tension interspersed with so many sweet swoony moments. *sigh*

And can we just talk about their first kiss? Yes the smut was scorchio, but the first kiss in this made my belly drop, just...outstanding.

This is my favourite from this author to date and is highly recommended for anyone looking for romance, feels, swoons and some page turning tension. You're in for a treat.

Standalone, complete story.

As far as I’m concerned, Nicola Rendell’s writing is pretty near perfection, and with every new book I love her a little more. Her writing transports me into the story with every gorgeously written scene, her beautiful phrases, vivid imagery, exciting action, and some of the best damn dialogue out there. Shimmy Bang Sparkle once again illustrates just how talented this author is at creating tightly written, cleverly crafted stories that will have you biting your nails in anticipation, clutching your heart at the suspense, and swooning over the chemistry between Nick and Stella.
Stella … her heart of gold radiates so much love for her roommates, her elderly neighbor, the precious little Priscilla, and best of all, the underdog. Watching her mind work is pure entertainment!
Nick … at first glance, he’s a straightforward kind of guy. But the more time he and Stella spend together, the more Nick reveals of himself and his past. What a sigh-worthy man! I couldn’t stop thinking, “I want me one of those!”
Shimmy Bang Sparkle is a gazillion carat diamond of charming, quirky, swoony, delicious romance that you will absolutely adore!

A sexy romantic comedy about two jewel thieves that team up to pull off their last heist.

Nick is a sexy tatted forty year old that just recently got out of jail. When he comes across Stella at a jewelry store and sees her stealing a diamond ring, he knows he should stay far away from her, but is completely captivated. He follows her home to return her phone that she left behind and the two quickly start up a steamy romance.

Both characters are loving a loyal and can’t quite seem to achieve their dreams, so they set their sights on their last big heist and fall in love in the process.

A light hearted story that any romance reader will enjoy.

"She was, without a doubt, the very last woman I should’ve been chasing across Albuquerque."

Funny, sexy and refreshing, this book is a light-hearted romance about Nick and Stella, two good-hearted jewel thieves who plan the heist of a lifetime. Nick is a 40 year-old who has just been released from prison, rides a Ducati and knows a thief when he sees one. Because he's a thief, too! Stella is the beautiful, kind-hearted member of a gang of jewel thieves. This plot might sound zany but this book is very witty and fun and SO different from any romance I've read lately!

One: Be Smart.
Two: Do it for a damned good reason.
Three: Never take more than you need.

There's lots of sexy times and Nick is a completely swoony Alpha with a sweet side. I loved the alternating POV and I found myself laughing out loud at the banter and Stella's inner dialogue! This is a modern take on a Robin Hood story and also features a very cute dog and wonderful supporting characters as well. But this is Nick and Stella's story and their chemistry together is AMAZING and SO well-written!

“With her in my arms, I felt hope. And I wanted to protect that.”

Stella and Nick could be themselves with each other and had no pretense. Nick knew from the very beginning that Stella was a very skilled thief. And she doesn't run away when Nick tells her about his background. What I really liked about this story was that Nick and Stella had almost given up on love when they meet. They are not twenty-something. But they are both honest with each other and their relationship felt real right from the beginning.

“She made things happen inside me I hadn’t felt in years. Maybe ever. Things I didn’t know I ever deserved to feel at all. Gratitude. Peace. Possibility. Hope. Love. Once-in-a-lifetime love.”

'Shimmy Bang Sparkle' is a fast-paced and imaginative book that I read in almost one sitting. Nick and Stella are both very good people and I was rooting for them to catch a break and succeed with their big plan. Plus I loved Priscilla the dachshund who features prominently in the story.

If you are looking for a sexy, adult, very witty story, you will love 'Shimmy Bang Sparkle'. Stella and Nick are very engaging and genuine characters and I loved their story! And the cover matched the hero perfectly. Happy reading!

“With a single look, he could make the world fall away.”

First up I really enjoyed the audible version of this book. I thought the narrators did a great job and would recommend listening to it if you are interested in audio. Now, onto the actual book. I admit I found the story a little slow. I mean, it took to about halfway through the book before they even started to properly talk about the jewel. There just seemed like there was a lot of pointless moments/comments in this book. It never felt like it was gripping. Just plodding along. And while I enjoyed the premise, I have to admit that I was somewhat disappointed by the ending. I pretty much guessed how it was going to go down right from the start, but I had assumed there would be some sort of misdirect/cool ending. Instead the ending made me scratch my head, because why didn't they just do what they did to solve everything at the start of all this? It rendered the entire jewel heist pointless. So, while I applaud this author for doing something different, I'm not sure this is a book I'll ever feel the need to re-read or re-listen to.

audiobook narrators - amazing, super great fun time
i also legit forgot how they solved the problem of Nick at the end, and overall had a blast re-reading via audio.

"But we were also known as the Shimmy Shimmy Bangs. We were the Lady Robin Hoods of the American Southwest. And we were going to do one last jewel heist. The biggest of them all. The North Star."

Nick Norton celebrated his 40th birthday in jail, but now he's out and determined to keep on the straight and narrow. No more lock-picking, no more jewel heists, no more gambling.

But, this motorcycle riding cinnamon roll is in for the greatest heist of his life when he is unwittingly roped into helping a beautiful and hilarious woman steal a diamond engagement ring. A theft she uses to help pay for and reclaim her elderly neighbor's pawned items. A gorgeous, modern day Robin Hood.

Stella and her two besties are preparing for their final heist, their last hurrah, and is not in the market for another partner, romantic or otherwise. But, Nick is completely and irresistibly sweet, not to mention utterly delicious. When her two friends are hurt in a car accident, Stella figures out she may actually need Nick's help after all.

What follows is a slightly insta-love but so good romance that you don't care heist story that just is the perfect combination of steam, heart, and fun. Similar to Tamara Morgan's Stealing Mr. Right but with SEX. Yes.

I was not expecting this book and I loved it so much.

Highly recommend. Also, a cute dachshund and great female friendships that I hope are explored in more books.

“This was real, even if it was for show. This meant something, even if it was pretend. Sometimes the real truth was right in the middle of the lie.”

I have never read a Nicola Rendell novel I did not end up adoring, but her latest offering also happens to be one of the sexiest and most exhilarating romances I have ever come across, and the kind of book you just want to keep reading over and over and over again. With prose that is crisp, satisfying, and delightfully witty at times, Rendell is a master at shifting tones and keeping the reader emotionally engaged—her most erotically charged scenes always complemented by perfectly timed notes of goofy joy or moments of raw, unbridled emotion between the characters—but it is the sheer uniqueness of her storylines that truly puts her in a category all her own. Two sexy jewel thieves, a cute miniature Dachshund, an RV named ‘The Love Boat’, and one of the craziest jewel heists ever attempted—if you’re looking for a story that is truly the whole package, look no further!

Shimmy Bang Sparkle by Nicola Rendell is an absolute MUST READ ROMANCE! Even the title of the book makes me smile every time I come across it. Nick and Stella were PERFECTION! I craved more of their sexy banter with every turn of the page. It was sexy as hell, heartfelt and OH so funny! This is one contemporary romance you won’t want to miss!

Rendell’s latest standalone will definitely keep you on your toes! It has to be some of her BEST WORK yet! Scorching HOT! Tender and emotional! Suspenseful and captivating! I never wanted it to end. The characters were fantastic. Our heroine is a SASSY, take charge kind of girl who is as independent as they come. Our hero is a tender alpha who falls instantly. It’s sweet. It’s sexy. It’s romantic. It's EVERYTHING! I can’t wait for the romance world to get their hands on this must have love story!

This is the type of book you can't put down! I was hooked from page one. Nick's internal debate as he watches Stella through the window? The moment he decides he can't just walk away. The moment they play roles they never intended to play.

I LOVED this book. I loved the dynamic between the characters--and not just our main characters, but all of them. The loyalty, the love, the heat? It's all there.

Nicola Rendell paints the scene--EVERY scene--perfectly. I felt like I was along for the ride.
At the jewelry store? Check.
On the bike? Check.
Out to dinner? Check.
Skating rink? Check.
Pony Up? Check.
The imagery is spot on and I like nothing more than to feel like I'm living the story.

If you want an un-put-down-able book, grab Shimmy Bang Sparkle! You'll laugh, you'll love, and you'll never want to leave!

4.5 stars. Big Giant Puffy Heart Eyes for Shimmy Bang Sparkle! Favorite Book of the Year.

Shimmy Bang Sparkle is NIck and Stella’s story. Nick is a reformed thief. His last jewel heist led to jail time. He is a good guy that got caught up in some bad stuff. Now, he is fresh out and determined to stay on the straight and narrow. But then, light shines down from the heavens and he meets Stella. She is standing in a jewelry store and he sees her through the window from the sidewalk outside. She is beautiful and full of life, and he is drawn to her. He sees her drop her cell phone under a shelf, but not notice she dropped it, so he goes into the store to pick it up for her. They have instant chemistry from the moment they meet, but as they are talking and flirting in the jewelry store, Nick is shocked to to spy Stella steal a diamond ring. You see, Stella is the leader of a notorious girl group of jewel thieves, the Shimmy Shimmy Bangs. Stella and her two best friends are robin-hood-like, in that they steal jewels, fence them, and use the money for good. Nick and Stella are match made in Heaven. They are drawn to each other, quickly begin spending time together and falling for each other. Meanwhile, Stella and her friends are planning one final heist-to-end-all-heists to set themselves up for life. But when an accident lands her friends out of commission, Stella asks Nick to help her finish the job. Can they pull it off and walk off into the sunset together?

Excuse me while I gush. I loved this book. I loved Nick. I loved Stella. I loved the way they loved each other. I loved everything they went through together for each others’ happiness.

I loved the swoony and hunky, tattooed Nick. He was so hot, so take control, but also a genuinely nice guy. He was awed by Stella. It was adorable the way he saw her for the gem she was, right away. He was content to let her lead the show. He was dominant, but sweet. The perfect hero. I also loved his POV. I don’t always love male POV in books, but his was one of the best I’ve ever read. I loved Stella too. She was absolutely adorable. She was sassy, smart, funny, strong, independent and a good person and friend.

These two were simply perfect for each other. No one else would have been able to understand each other they way they were. It was fate that brought them together at just the right time. Nick and Stella were sweet, romantic, funny and sexy together. Swoonworthy chemistry and connection. They were a truly epic couple. Both of them knew soon after they met that they were meant to be together. There was no pushing away or unnecessary angst. All of the drama is centered around the heist.. Even though we know that there is a chance they could get caught stealing the big diamond, it is not harped on or dwelled on. We just get to enjoy their journey. A road trip, a cute dog, and falling in love along the way.

Even though the book has some elements that could have made it feel darker, like Nick’s being recent ex-con, it has a happy, hopeful feeling. It made you root for Nick and Stella to pull off their heist and live happily ever after. I loved the overall atmosphere and feelings the book invoked. I loved the idea of the girl group of jewel thieves. The Shimmy Shimmy Bangs were awesome, smart and kickass. The story was fun, original and interesting. I could see it being a movie one day. But it is really the chemistry and love between the characters that creates magic. The tangible, awesome connection is what makes the book so good.

Everytime I review a NIcola Rendell book I say this. I just love the way she writes. Her characters are awesome, with lots of depth and layers to them. Strong, sometimes sassy, often sweet women. Protective, kind men who adore their women. They are people you want to know and be friends with, in fact they feel like your best friend by the end of the book. Also, the chemistry and connection between her heroes and heroines is so great and very rare to read. You can feel their love so strongly. There is always humor, sexiness, and low relationship angst. I always end one of the her books with a big happy sigh and those warm feelings linger on for days afterwards as I think of the characters. I can’t say enough how much I love her books and I wish she’d write faster.

Shimmy Bang Sparkle is just so everything. So fun, so sexy, so sweet. It was so good I read I have read it twice already because I loved it so much. This book is definitely my favorite this year. I can’t wait to see what Ms. Rendell comes up with next!

5 SMOOCHES!

There hasn’t been a book that Nicola Rendell has written that I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed. Her writing style is quick witted, with an occasional splash of well-timed perfectly rude humor, and coupled with the way she spins a sultry, sexy, steamy romance, the result for me is utter perfection in romcom book form. Her stories completely entertain me, speaking to every single thing I hope for when I crack open contemporary romantic fiction. Her stories are smart, amusing and thoughtful, and I can’t get enough of them.

Shimmy Bang Sparkle is the latest gem from the talented Rendell. These characters stole my heart from the first page with their swagger and their magnetic chemistry. I’d like to say that Nick and Stella are a modern day Bonnie and Clyde, but they were so much more than that. Bonnie and Clyde were straight up thieves. Nick and Stella were the rarer than that – they were thieves with a conscience, a sense of justice. Sitting here, devouring this story, I was all in with them and along for the heist, and it didn’t take long before I was actually thinking it was the right thing to do! That is how wickedly creative Rendell was in her storytelling here.

This book was so much more than I expected it to be, and shame on me for that. I know to expect the unexpected from this author. I know this, she’s given that to me time and time again. Yet still, she managed to surprise me with how hard and fast I fell for this couple, for the fantastic side characters, and their engrossing, interesting and just plain fun story. The plot wasn’t the only thing capturing my attention, though. Falling in love right along with Nick and Stella was as swoony and romantic and delicious as it gets. They were two lost halves of a whole finally coming together after a long separation. They fit, they suited, they meshed, and they had me from the moment they first met. I was just as smitten with them as they were with each other.

Shimmy Bang Sparkle was three-hundred-plus pages of pure pleasure to read. Light-hearted and easy reading, Rendell delivered a fantastic story that was sexy, passionate, sweetly romantic and a whole lot of fun. I devoured this book in a day, and I simply did not want to put it down. I laughed and grinned, and as is always the case with one of Rendell’s stories, I was fanning the blush staining my cheeks. Five smooches from me for Shimmy Bang Sparkle by Nicola Rendell.

‘I felt like I was dreaming. Never, in my whole life, had I seen anything so goddamned smooth. She seemed sweet, she looked so sexy, and to top it all off, she was utterly badass. I needed to get my hands on her. Now.’

We love Nicola Rendell, her stories always make us swoon, laugh and very hot under the collar. We’re swept up by her words and come over all unnecessary at the passion and pure romance. Well, she did it again and we fell in love. Shimmy Bang Sparkle is an easy to read swoon fest with a bit of ‘robbing’ and ‘throbbing’ action and comedy thrown in. It’s not our favourite by this Author but it sure did make us forget about the world around us for a while.

‘Here were the facts: He was a tatted up biker with a felony record and a swagger. He was hunky. He was manly. He was looking at me like he wanted to rip off all my clothes and get us booked for public indecency.’

Insta love is a bit of a hit or miss for us but this time it sure did work. Nick and Stella have an immediate attraction, after all, they’re kindred spirits. What starts as a physical ‘must have’ soon turns into stolen hearts and dreams of the forever kind. Nicola Rendell writes a good tale with passion and humour and whilst –yes- you have to suspend belief at times, it just works. We fell in love with the characters and believed in them wholeheartedly.

‘Forgetting about me was exactly what I’d asked her to do, because that would be the best thing for her. But the idea of me forgetting about her was brutal, impossible. To lose her was to lose hope. To lose her was the let go of the only life preserver I had. To let her go was to make the whole night sky go dark forever.’

Nick is just divine as is Stella, we loved both characters equally, and how refreshing to have mature characters act – well mature. Nick is a gorgeous sexy biker ex-con in his early forties who’s had a not so stellar life, and who is really just looking to settle down with his own auto shop alongside a dream of love and a peaceful existence. Stella is looking for the same but needs to carry out one last ‘job’ to achieve her ultimate dream.

‘He took my face in his hands and gave me a long and tender kiss. It was a kiss unlike any other we’d had. One moment it was sweet, the next it was desperate. It was urgent, it was sad. It was joyful, and it was terrifying.’

Sweet and spicy with fabulous banter, Shimmy Bang Sparkle is the perfect light easy read that’ll have you romantics laughing and swooning in equal measure as you root for the new age ‘Robin Hood’ girl gang and the man who steals a heart.

‘Find someone who makes you want to saddle up and ride into the sunset. Find someone who makes you so happy you could just about cry.’

Ok, I just want to start by saying I’m a LOT in love this book, everything just captured my attention and I couldn’t get enough, ahhh.

Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review

When I first read the blurb to this book it grabbed my attention and I knew it would be something that I would want to read, something I knew I would love and I was right, so very right. Johnny James being the cover model MAY have been the extra pull I needed because damn, that man is stunning.

Shimmy Bang Sparkle is so different from any other kind of book I’ve read. It’s not your typical romance, it’s not your typical anything. It’s unexpected and really quite amazing.

Nick and Stella are two unbelievable characters. Their story is intriguing. I’ve never read a story that involved heists and I’m quite glad theirs was my first. Their relationship was adorable, I adore how much love they both have, I loved how much of a match they are for each other. I also loved pricilla, I loved the element she brought to the book along with the other secondary characters. I just adore a beautiful fur baby being a main part of a book along with the humans.

I gotta admit though my heart broke and shattered when it was nearing the end not only with what happened but at the thought of the book ending because when a book hooks you in as much as this did you NEVER want it to end. Nicola Rendell did an incredible job on this book hands down.

This is my first read by this author and definitely won’t be my last. Nicola managed to grab my attention from the get go and take me into the world of Nick and Stella, a world I won’t be forgetting any time soon.

Full of tantalizing chemistry, this story is one you’ll pick up for the cover (what!? it's glittery *shrug*) and won’t put down for the first-class writing, humorous and witty banter, and knock out heroine.  Shimmy Bang Sparkle was my first Nicola Rendell novel and I’m sure it won’t be my last.

I’m such a sucker for an unconventional romance so this synopsis grabbed my attention straight from the get go. Nicola really outdid herself with it too. The story was so well-balanced with just the right amounts of humor, romance, and suspense which were further complemented by well-defined character arcs. All things I look for and appreciate in my reads.

Nick and Stella were awesome. The chemistry between them just wouldn’t quit! Their meet cute was so adorable and I swooned over the way Nick pursued her, nearly relentlessly. A man who definitely knows what he wants and how to get it. I loved that about Nick. Stella was full of confidence and sass and is one of those heroines that are so easy to love and admire. She’s got a giant heart of gold and buckets of determination; the most dangerous combination, especially when you're a Robin Hood sort of jewel thief.

I’m really looking forward to more from Nicola Rendell. Maybe I’ll pick up one of her earlier releases that is occupying my e-shelf space. Do you have a favorite?

I definitely recommend this, especially if you’re nursing a book hangover from something a bit more emotional. Super fun, super sexy and absolutely refreshing.

This is the first time I've read this author. After reading the previous reviews, it's very apparent that I somehow missed something because...well...I guess this just wasn't my cup of tea.

Nick notices a beautiful woman in a jewelry store looking at a 2 carat engagement ring. The way she moves, smiles, laughs, immediately pulls him in. But it shouldn't. I mean, she's not only looking at an engagement ring, she's in a jewelry store. Why is the store a big issue? Because he just got out after serving time for a jewelry heist gone bad. But he just can't seem to look away. And now that her phone has slipped "unnoticed" under the counter, he's determined to return it to her.

Stella's playing it cool. Well, let's face it, she's pretty cool. And gorgeous, but let's focus. While she's in the middle of a heist, Nick walks in, looking all cute and yummy. But she's there to do a job. So she leaves him behind, finishes what she started and goes about her business. Until he shows up at her neighbors house with her phone, asking her to dinner. She should have said no, but she couldn't help herself. It's just dinner, right?

Let me mentioning that the writing was really good. The humor and dialogue, even the cute little dog worked for me. I had a really hard time getting in to the whole love at first sight PLUS the heist thing. I understand "good intentions" and all, but the whole stealing thing and falling for each other so hard, so fast, just put me off a bit. I want to reiterate that the writing and dialogue were good. I guess this type of story just isn't for me. At least I learned a lesson.

I am a sucker for high intensity heist stories, even better if there is a romance angle and I especially love it when there is a con involved that puts one over for the underdogs. This story had it all and I appreciated that the main characters in Shimmy Bang Sparkle were not juvenile characters who were perfecting their craft. No, Stella Peretti and her pals had been running cons since before they hit puberty and they knew exactly what they were doing.

What would I have changed about this story?! Give me more about the Shimmy Shimmy Bangs! I loved this group of women and although I was given a brief history about them and their Robin Hood ways I wanted more, please GIVE.ME.MORE! I just really loved the camaraderie between Stella, Ruth and Roxie! Overall, I loved Shimmy Bang Sparkle for so many wonderful reasons and I can’t recommend it enough!!

This review is based on a complimentary book I received from NetGalley. It is an honest and voluntary review. The complimentary receipt of it in no way affected my review or rating.

A few years ago I read and adored Nicola Rendell’s Just Like That, and ever since I’ve been meaning to read more of the author’s work. After reading Shimmy Bang Sparkle, I’m annoyed it took me so long. I adored this one, devouring it in no time at all. Now I’m finished, I plan to go and devour the rest of Nicola Rendell’s books.

Shimmy Bang Sparkle had so much to it. Wonderful characters, an addictive storyline, insane chemistry, plenty of laugh out loud moments, and all the goodness a romance book should have. I fell deeply in love with everything, and once I started I could not put it down. I was giggling away, wearing a stupid smile, and never wanted the book to end.

In fact, it’s more a four-point-five-star rating. I’m very selective with my five-star ratings, and the reason I didn’t give this a five-star rating is because certain elements towards the end of this one I saw coming early in the book. It was not enough to take away my enjoyment, but I had been hoping for a surprise to appear.

All in all, Shimmy Bang Sparkle is more than worth the read for romance fans.
