Community in Action.  Materializing Hope.

Each year, our community comes together to learn, celebrate, and honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Many in our community continue to struggle, guiding us urgently towards collective service.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. catalyzed hope to transform communities in the face of racial hate and violence. Navigating the complexities of our local community challenges, we move towards collective consciousness and demonstrate our commitment to purposeful action through volunteerism, advocacy, supporting marginalized voices, and actively engaging with the issues around us.

On January 15, 2024, the entire community was invited to engage in a day of service, gratitude, and community. 400 community members attended to honor Dr. King by participating in a collective day of service. Together, our community:

  • Donated 600 lbs of food distributed to the food pantries at Bellingham Technical College, Northwest Indian College, WWU, and Whatcom Community College
  • Made 50 blankets that were donated to Road2Home
  • Made 100 supply kits for the houseless that were donated to Road2Home

This event was sponsored by education, city, and nonprofit institutions in Whatcom County.
