Alzheimer’s Society collects Lovett award

SPECIAL OPERA FESTIVAL PRIZE IN MEMORY OF EMER

AN OPERA Festival art award has been establishe­d to honour the memory of wellknown Wexford woman Emer Lovett.

The first recipient of the Emer Lovett Art Prize is the Wexford Alzheimer’s Society for an art project involving people suffering from dementia.

The Society invited community artist Helen McClean to work with Alzheimer’s patients in three day care centres in Wexford.

The unique project resulted in an beautiful exhibition of mosaics and paintings which first went on display at the Blue Egg Gallery and is currently showing at Fusion Cafe in Selskar.

Emer, a former CEO of Wexford Chamber died of cancer in December 2009 at the age of 38.

She loved art and culture and especially the Opera Festival which was her favourite time of year in Wexford.

The inaugural Emer Lovett Art Prize was presented to Sheila Gallagher, co-ordinator of the Wexford Alzheimer’s Society at a reception in Spectrum art shop in Selskar which sponsored the award.

Members of Emer’s family including her mother Bernadette and her brothers Alestren and Kian attended the presentati­on.
