Refresh Your Alcohol Markers Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hi, hello!  It’s blog hop day at Altenew and today we’re showcasing the newly released Alcohol Marker Refills!  You have probably come from Enza’s blog, but if not, click back to the beginning of the hop at the Altenew Card Blog.

Originally developed for the utilitarian purpose of refilling alcohol ink markers, these refills have recently become an art medium of their own!  And I think I will need to own ALL the colors!!  Obviously they coordinate with the Altenew Artist Markers but can certainly be bought separately. (Also, you might like to know that Altenew is currently running a 15% off sale for their Artist Markers!  Time to go snap some up!)

I’ve made several cards for today’s hop.  As usual, I didn’t know where they would end up (and definitely needed to play with a few different color variations), so I went a few different directions and ended up loving them ALL!

The first card is made by splashing colors of Frosty Pink (R302) and Peach Perfect (R101) onto Yupo paper with some Rubbing Alcohol, pushing it around by blowing through a straw, letting it dry, reactivating it with more alcohol, and once dry, outlining some of the areas with a white Signo Uni-ball pen.  I stamped the front panel of a white card base with the Pattern Play Diamond background stamp and heat embossed with white for a subtle but beautiful tone-on-tone look.

I also stamped some Folksy Florals flowers and leaves with Altenew Crisp Dye inks and die cut the shapes.  I cut the inked Yupo paper on an angle and adorned the edge with the die cut flowers.  I stamped the sentiment “Sending Love and Hugs” from the Adore You stamp set, with black ink and added a few coordinating enamel dots to finish the card.

Card #2 comes about by simply playing with a wide range of blue refill inks, once again on Yupo paper and mixing/diluting/pushing color with rubbing alcohol.  I poured some alcohol into a small spray bottle and sprayed it onto the drying ink to achieve the little white ink “snowflake” patterns.  Once it was dry, I die cut the word happy from the Yupo paper, being sure to keep track of the little bits of alphabet centers so they could be replaced in the word.  The inked panel is popped up on foam tape for extra interest, and all the letter centers are as well!

I stamped the word “birthday” (from the Birthday Builder stamp set) onto vellum paper, heat embossed it with white and cut it into a fish tail tag.  Then I added a few little white enamel dots and called it done. That’s what I love about this medium, it doesn’t take any effort or time to get a really lovely result.

The last two cards use small portions of a larger panel of refill-inked Yupo paper.  I’ve used splashes of Frayed Leaf (G702), Forest Glades (G715), Sea Glass (B201), Ocean Waves (B204), Dusk (B313), and Persian Blue (B016).

For the “smile” card, I die cut some leafy branches from the Create-A-Wreath die set, and adhered them in a wreath fashion, to a card front that I had stamped and heat embossed with silver embossing powder.  The “You make me Smile” sentiment comes from the Happy Bloom stamp set.

Finally, I created this last card by die cutting a square from the inked Yupo paper, then die-cut another leafy branch die from the Create-A-Wreath die set right through the middle of the square.  I love the inlaid die cut technique.   It’s quite true that you can achieve a similar look by cutting a leafy branch from white card stock and simply adhering it on top of the die cut square, but I love the little bit “extra” that the inlay gives.

I stamped and heat embossed with white embossing powder, a sentiment from the Needlework Motif stamp set.  Then I added some matte enamel dots to finish the card.  And with that, I think I may actually have created a CAS (clean and simple) card with this design!

As always, Altenew is giving away a $30 gift certificate to six lucky winners! Just leave a comment on the Altenew Card Blog and/or Altenew Scrapbook Blog by Wednesday, September 26th for a chance to win. Six winners will be announced on the Altenew blogs on 9/29/2018.

I am also going to be drawing a name for a chance to win a $20 Altenew gift certificate.  Leave a comment here on my blog and I’ll choose a winner by Sept 26th.
